    Going to Weddings

There is a sweet spot at weddings where you are close enough that you give a shit, but not so close you have to get involved. They are the best ones.

NBA Playoffs 2019 - Raging Harden

The Rockets team that entered the season had certainly taken a step back, but they retooled throughout the season and are now basically the same team as last year with Harden taking his game to the next level. Don’t be shocked if they beat the Warriors, who are probably a lesser team than they were last year and are incredibly dysfunctional. Well played!

  6. Alright, Episode 2 down. If episode 1 was a dumpster fire, episode 2 was the marshmallows roasted over that fire. Sure, you'll get a nice blast of sweetness from it, but like all marshmallows, it absorbed the flavor of the fire it was roasted over. I will say we saw some legitimate acting for the first time this season from someone not named Jamie Lannister, which was a pleasant surprise. Even Danny managed to move her eyebrows a bit here or there, which hasn't happened in about three seasons, so that was pretty impressive. In all honesty, this episode was better than the previous one. It felt as if the actors were actually enjoying themselves for the first time in a long while. Perhaps it's all the meetups and chit-chat, or perhaps the director loosened the reigns a bit, but something was definitely different. Highlights: Theon and Sansa reunion actually tugged at the heartstrings. Who knew that could happen? And Danny managed to look surprised rather than dully amused. Bonus points. Toromund arriving and immediately raising the eyebrows of appreciation while asking if the big woman was still around. You know what? Let's just call this episode the Eyebrows of the Seven Kingdoms. It's like everybody watch season 1-3 of every Tyrion scene and decided to steal his best gimmick. Which is fine by me. Jamie and Brienne. Despite the fact they were given a shit-sandwich level of dialog to deliver, they sold it by actually playing the parts and saved every scene they were a part of. I mean seriously, "I never wanted to be a knight" immediately followed by "do you want to be a knight or not?" Wordsmithery must not come easy to the Ds. The group sitting around the fire talking felt mostly genuine, despite the garbage they had to spout. Toromund's background story was ridiculously over-the-top. When he said when he was ten he killed a giant I was just waiting for him to complete the sentence with, "with my cock." I was actually shocked they didn't go there. But it's alright, they immediately made up for it by him talking about sucking down massive quantities of giantess breast milk. *SHUDDER* Tyrion and Jamie having a moment was quite enjoyable. Arya and Gendry felt rushed and silly, and Arya was way too pushy, but I suppose that's what they think is bad ass now and Arya is all bad ass all the time just because. My main disappointment was that Toromund and Sandor couldn't get back together for another lesson on euphemisms for male genitalia. I honestly have to admit that their moment last season inspired the absolute best worst lines of this entire series. "Cock? I LIKE IT!" "Yes, I'll bet you do." Shakespeare this ain't. The conversation between the Night's Watch leftovers was fun, them joking about with each other like old times. Jon got back to legitimately brooding again, which was all he did for about five seasons of the show so it's nice to have that back again. NOT. Danny literally saying her "entire life" was about the Iron Throne was a bit galling as there was nearly an entire life of giving less than zero fucks about the Iron Throne until she decided to give more than zero fucks because dammit I want mine, but whatever. Varys, the actual smartest man there based on the show's history, gets nada/zippo/zilch. Sure, why not. I'm glad the Arya sex scene didn't get more graphic. The scars they did show made absolutely no sense at all based on injuries we know she had, but who gives a crap? We're not the least concerned with consistency of character, a couple Frankenstein level stitch jobs around her side instead of stab wounds in the belly are perfectly fine. Brienne's little fit about Jamie always insulting her rang hollow, but at least she sold it. Davos' soup kitchen scene was meh. I get what they were going for, but it just fell flat for me aside from Gilly stepping in for a moment. I'm not sure if this episode was actually better than the previous one, or if the first one lowered the bar so far that it was easier to swallow, but I didn't feel quite as meh'ed out this time around. I'm glad we saw small glimpses of who these characters used to be before the impending murder/death/kill routine. Speaking of which, did it seem silly how often everybody kept mentioning they were going to die tomorrow as if they were mentioning they were going to have to clean tomorrow? No terror. No fear. No anger. Just casual and reluctant acceptance. I would have liked to have seen some variety here or there. Not everybody is going to face that sort of situation with the exact same reaction. Some will be hopeful, some will be terrified, some will be bemused, some will be angry, just SOMETHING to differentiate the people into individuals would have been nice. Oops, I forgot. These aren't characters anymore. They're extensions of the Ds alter-egos. I almost hoped during the fire slumber party discussion that they would come to the conclusion that if they were all going to die anyway, why not just give in and let themselves be taken so that at least the Night King's army would be strong when it got to Kings Landing. But that was too much to hope for. Here's to next week. Bring on the dead! I'm ready to see these cardboard characters turned to ash!

Yeh, I cheekily suggested above that Bran should be secreted into Cercei's boudoir (or more seriously into the tunnels below the Iron Throne as depicted in the opening credits). The rest can take a sunny beach break until the WWs wipe out Cercei's forces.

I guess I've lost track here; the wights are susceptible to dragonglass? AIR, Sam took out a walker with dragonglass and Jon took out another with Longclaw. When did we see a wight die from a scratch of dragonglass?

I think I heard somewhere that Amazon have these oversized boxes because it makes it easier to stack in their warehouses etc. I've had boxes that are 6-7 times the size of the contents before.

    What's For Dinner, Take 7

I have some fresh caught trout to cook and i’m debating what to do with it. I was thinking roasting it on a bed of fennel and some other veg i have lying around and just keeping the seasoning plain, the better to enjoy the fresh fish. otherwise its trout parcels with a thai-inspired stuffing

Packaging on stuff like deliveries from Amazon is utterly ridiculous too. I ordered headphones, they came in a flat box that should easily go through the letterbox. Instead i get a knock on the door with a shoebox sized package stuffed with paper.

US Politics: It’s Not A Crime If Your Feelings Got Hurt

I know you already know this, but there’s a major difference between the two: popularity. Clinton was poll in the 60’s when he was getting impeached, while Trump is literally the only president to never crack 50% approval. A majority of Americans will always oppose him, so there’s a lot less to lose in impeaching him. I would do a lot of polling in Midwestern states beforehand, but if the data comes back with similar results then I’d go ahead and do it. Trump’s behavior cannot go unchecked. The precedent he’s creating is extremely damaging.

    Video Games: Devils Die Twice

Bought a PS4 and Red Dead 2 and its taking me a while to get into it for a number of reasons. Chapter one is so linear and is basically an enormous tutorial. I was getting frustrated and bored with all the handholding and lack of freedom and was really scared the whole game was going to be like that. Once I got to Chapter 2 things improved, but I'm really struggling to get my head around the save/restart mission system, because its more like GTA (which I haven't played in years) than like Fallout or Skyrim. I get so confused when I die as to whether I'm still on the same mission, why I didn't start from the point I died etc. Taking me a while to get my head around the rules. I killed a legendary bear and then died.. and when I reloaded my save I was in a different location and the bear was gone. I still don't get it. Moving from PC gaming to console there are some things that get on my nerves, like endless cutscenes and tasks which give the illusion of interactivity but are really just pressing a button that I've been told to press. The more I play the more I like it, and having read more and watched videos I think there is a great game in there, but it takes a very long time to get to a point where it is enjoyable.

NBA Playoffs 2019 - Raging Harden

I am not as high on Rockets/Warriors as some people are, and I'm definitely not trolling. I think that the Rockets are worse than they were last year, and the only hope they really have is that GSW might be worse as well. Which is possible, but I'm not really counting on it. It's a good series, almost assuredly the best series we'll get in the West this year, but I think this rematch will fall short of last year's series. On the other hand, both the East series are exciting and new. The Bucks have emerged this year and I am really excited to see them tested against a Celtics team that might be putting it all together. Likewise the Raptors vs Sixers is two teams that have both bet big on themselves (which I always love in the NBA when so many teams lack the stones to push their chips to the middle). These teams are both talented and desperate not to fall short, but one of them inevitably will. Plus some great matchups. Leonard vs Butler, Embiid vs Gasol, Lowry vs himself, the list goes on.

    Going to Weddings

This is precisely the same as i have observed working as part of the bar/waiting staff at numerous weddings. Though sometimes speeches are before the meal (i remember distinctly as the chef was getting angry because they overran). Just make it through the meal and you should be free to wander and mingle - in fact its almost expected. The hotel i worked in had the top table on a stage at the front of the room, and once the main meal was over and done with it was mostly a storage area for coats, gifts etc of the wedding party. Other observations which are so frequent they must be rules someone will try/succeed in upsetting the bride be as rude as possible to bar and waiting staff someone will get ridiculously drunk and start a fight a middle aged person with tenuous connections to the actual bride and groom will complain. About everything. For gods sake arrange transport home beforehand

    [Spoilers] E802 Discussion

Not sure if it has been brought up before, was some days off and don't have time to read the whole thread. The strategy sucks big. The Night King is after Bran? Why doesn't Bran board a ship to the Iron Islands, Bear Island, Skagos? The wight dragon should not be able to fly across water. And if he could, only the Night's King could fly to where Bran is. 50 archers with dragonglass arrows should be enough to take him out. Btw, where is Anguy? He should be concentrating on taking out White Walkers and the Night King.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 802?

This episode mended a lot of fences between people and brought a major potential conflict between the two main characters, Jon and Dany. For an action-less episode it was excellent, and it set the stage for, I'm hoping, four final roller coasters. I don't think Bran's bait plan is going to work. The Night King won't bite. I'd be surprised if he's even at Winterfell. Winter is coming for King's Landing instead. That's a far more lucrative and far less defended target in the eyes of the dead. As for the rest of those White Walkers, well, they're fucked. The Night King is sacrificing a rook (couple hundred thousand undead at Winterfell) to gain a queen (a million undead at King's Landing).
  25. King Jon Snow Stark

Jon dying and resurrected a second time?

If Jon does die again it should be a permanent death. But it would be interesting to see his family including Dany watch him get resurrected again. Maybe they will being thankful and he will be angry about it.

NBA Playoffs 2019 - Raging Harden

Both Eastern Conference matchups should be great, but obviously Warriors-Rockets is the main event. Portland-Denver might prove to be quality too, but I think Portland is going to destroy whoever they face. That back court is on fire right now. Also, in a year where Giannis leapfrogged several other superstars, has Lillard passed Westbrook? The triple-doubles are impressive, he’s averaged them for three straight seasons, but he’s the worst volume shooter I’ve ever seen.
