  1. While we're on the subject, do you guys know the correct procedure for using copyrighted images? As I mentioned, I'm making an interactive ASOIAF infographic, and I'd like to incorporate some images from the TV series. I think it qualifies as fair use, but I don't want to get sued. Any advice? Do I need to contact HBO and ask for permission? Thanks in advance!
  2. I like the current one because it features her dragons. Then again...boobs.
  3. There was none. It think she accidentally made it onto my hatnote list because of the weird formatting that I saw. THANK YOU for making all these changes!!! Looks fine now. I think my browser was just acting wonky. Sorry for the false alarm. TODO: stop using Safari.
  4. Great! All I meant was that they should be consistent. Kudos to you for looking up the correct capitalization in the books!
  5. Here are a few that I noticed: Robert Baratheon Joffrey Baratheon Jaime Lannister Tommen Baratheon Renly Baratheon Tyrion Lannister Jon Snow Dragon Asha Greyjoy Edmure Tully Baelor the Blessed Also, the formatting on Asha's page looks completely different from the rest of the wiki (at least in my browser). Anyone else notice that? Another minor thing I noticed is that "Brotherhood Without Banners" should be capitalized in the title of that page, as it is in the text itself. Let me know if/when you make these changes!
  6. Yes, looks awesome! Thank you so much for doing that! If it helps, I can make a list of pages that I notice which need hatnote formatting.
  7. I don't think the two are mutually exclusive. You can use the hatnote templates whenever possible and custom hatnotes when none of the templates fit. The important thing is that you use proper hatnote syntax when writing a hatnote, whether it's a template or a custom one.
  8. It doesn't affect the way the page is displayed, but when web developers like me try to pull text from the wiki the first sentence will be "This is an article about ___; for ___, see ___." I'm trying to have my site pull short character descriptions from AWOIAF, similar to the way Google shows previews from Wikipedia in the right sidebar when you search. Having those hatnotes appear as part of the description is not ideal.
  9. Yes! You can make custom hatnotes like this: {{Hatnote | whatever text/links you want}} The only difference is that now the hatnote text won't be treated as part of the body of the article (which is annoying for people like me trying to pull text from the article). Personally I agree with you, but it's a matter of preference. At the end of the day both are probably fine. I'd be happy to help update some hatnones, but it would require being allowed to register as a wiki editor.
  10. Sure! http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Sansa_Stark http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Eddard_Stark In both cases, the hatnote is written out longhand, e.g. :''For the historical figure, see [[Sansa Stark (daughter of Rickon)]].'' Instead, you should use a hatnote template. For Sansa, this would look like {{For | historical figure | Sansa Stark (daughter of Rickon)}} This would produce the exact same text as is currently displayed. You can also make hatnotes with custom text as follows: {{Hatnote|blah blah blah}} Here is an example of a page with a correctly formatted hatnote: http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Bran_Stark {{See homonyms | Brandon Stark (disambiguation)}} Thanks for taking an interest in this!
  11. Hello! Big fan of ASOIAF (and this site) here. I'm in the process of making an interactive infographic about ASOIAF, and I want to pull some character descriptions from AWOAIF. But, I noticed that some of the hatnotes are not properly formatted, and hence they show up as part of the article text. So I would like to become a wiki member so that I can make a few minor formatting changes. This is my first forum post toward that end...
