  1. Very happy again. As is my standard, "How does it do in following the books?" I rated it excellent. The whole Tyrion "guessing game" thing was a huge bore for me though and it felt like it brought the episode to a halt for a bit. I gave it an 8.5. I have liked these last two shows far and above the first seven.

After reading some of the previous posts, I see what pleases me doesn't sit well with others. It really shows that people are diverse in what they want from the show.

  2. I kind of expected beforehand because people know this is written by George and I figured that at least some people would have their perceptions altered by that fact (in the same way people are viewing the show in light of the book).

Personally I found the episode to be great, although not sure if it's the best of the season.

I'm not trying to tell you how to vote but personally I think a scale of 10 is far too rough to have a grade dedicated solely to perfection (perfection is a strong term and if I had a scale where one grade simulated that I would never use it). To me it seems logical that a 9.9 would be rounded off to 10 rather than 9.

This bit accurately shows the biggest flaw of public voting though; that people don't even view the scales similarly. I reckon some people see the 1-5 grades as shades of poor, while others go by the devise that it's irrelevant to grade something poor and instead use more of the scale to talk about what's interesting, i.e. what's actually good.

So THAT's why I loved it and felt like it followed the books so well. (As stated on page 1) I honestly did not know George wrote it. I haven't paid attention to writers and directors. That being the case....I'm all for George writing the rest.

  3. Okay, so maybe I'm the oddball of the movie ratings then. I have been very stingy with the #'s so far with a 7 being the best I've given. I have admitted more than once that my being a series fan-boy has skewed my opinions with all the deviations and such from the books. So surprise! I give my first rating above a 7. I gave it a ten!!!!!!

I liked it so much I think because it felt like they finally followed the storyline to a "T". For the first time it watched like it read for me. (unfortunately that is my fucked up criteria for the series so far) I don't mind slight omissions or word twists, but I can't stand shit in the series that never happened. So I'm happy for once.

  4. Had to go with a 6. I love lesbian sex as much as the next guy, but this scene had ZERO place in the show. What is it with these writers? When a guy like me thinks there's too much sex and nudity in a show, you have a serious problem.

I could pick it apart even further, but that is just the fanboy in me being dissapointed that it is not following the book more.

  5. Gotta be honest about the Renly-Loras thing. It bothered the shit out of me. Maybe it's because I AM a bit homophobic, but I don't think it was the sex that bothered me. It was in the way Renly was portrayed. I don't remember him being such a puss in the books. He struck me as a fun loving, funny, and somewhat fearless dude. He japed about Barristan being old, He made fun of his drunken brother, and offered Ned his help in securing the kingdom. In no way did he come off as Robert's weak little brother like he did here. Also, isn't he supposed to resemble Robert in his heyday?

As far a Loras goes, isn't he supposed to be the prettiest man in the realm? And have brown hair like his sister? This guy falls short.

Now before you trash me for gay bashing, I'm not a big fan of any of the gratuitous sex scenes in any of it. Do we really need to see everyone naked to get the point across that they are having sex? I get the Danny/Drogo part, it shows how Dany entrances the big Dothraki. I also get the Cersei/Jaime one as well, we are supposed to see the perverse nature of their relationship and just how fucked up the Lannister's are. Don't get me wrong, I love sex and even watch porn, but for some reason some of these scenes just make me uncomfortable.

Still stick with 8 rating as I thought it was the best episode so far!

  6. After being thoroughly dissapointed in last week, I am ecstatic over this one. It seemed to convey a lot of the story without all the crazy shifts from place to place. (Which reads well, but hasn't translated to the shows for me) For the first time in the series it feels like we are getting to meat and potato's of the story.

Now if we could convince HBO to go with 90 minutes.......

I gave this show an 8. The series so far has been only about a 6 in MY ratings, but I feel like we are about to be getting into the really good stuff from here on out.
