When I read the book (and again, this was probably me) I never got that sense that this was a race-thing. Unfortunately, in seeing the scene, that fact becomes impossible to ignore.
People can overanalyze and make this a race thing, as keyboard activist twats tend to do, or face that moroccans are brown, and they weren't going to spend money flying in extras from europe just to make it ethnically appropriate. It's the most minor of all minor details.
