  1. Hi. :)

My name is Kat, and I've loved reading and fantasy as far back as I can remember.

Unfortunately, I didn't get my hands on the first ASoIaF book until recently, and I am halfway done with it.

I got introduced to this wickedly awesome series with the television show, although I really wish I would've known about the books beforehand.

I'm an American, live in the state of Illinois, and I am seventeen years old. (will be eighteen May 28!)

I think it's obvious which house I am for, with my name and icon. ;)

I hope to post more and maybe even make some friends! :D

Hi Kat, welcome to Westeros! If you haven't finished the books yet I'd advise you tread with care in the forum, as there are a lot of spoilers!

  2. Well, I couldn't watch every episode. HBO on demand only had a few key episodes per season, and a season recap for each season, but I got the general gist of what's going on and have watched every episode so far from season 5. I really enjoy how it the show separates itself from generic fantasy by pushing boundaries and having a very rich plot, rather than the common "good vs. evil, black and white" theme most fantasy portrays. I'm also sorry to see Sansa slowly becoming more of a major player in the "Game", because we all know what happens when you play the game. You win or you die.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome.

Ah I see. I don't really know what HBO on demand is, but it sounds rubbish if they only show a few episodes from each series! If you can get hold of the DVDs or something then you're in for a treat. I wasn't sure what you meant about Sansa playing an active role in the game of thrones (I've read all the books, but only managed to watch the first 2 series of the TV show), so this makes me wonder if this is one of the places where the show takes a departure from the books...(or overtakes the books)

  3. Hi Eddard, I really like their words ( Unbowed, Unbroken, Unbent), their weather as it is described as hot and sunny and because I really expect them to play a major role in the end of the novel. I really want to know what Doran´s plans are.

    Well that´s basically it,

    See ya

Surely it's "Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken"? Oh the irony, hehe. Ah interesting, I hadn't looked at it that way. For me they came into the story so late, I've always felt like they had such a minor role, but I guess it'll be interesting to see what happens in The Winds of Winter.

Hello everyone. Just signed up today. I just got into GoT about 2 weeks ago. Everyone was telling me how great it was so I finally started watching from the beginning and it was so good I couldn't stop watching until I caught up all the way to the current season. Haven't read the books yet but I plan on it as soon as I can.

Also, the photo editor isn't working. lol

EDIT: Nvm. I figured it out.

Welcome! Wow, you watched like 40 episodes in 2 weeks? That's intense!! You'll enjoy the books, although you might find it takes slightly longer than 2 weeks to get through them. :P

  4. Hi Jon Martell, welcome! So I take it you're a fan of the Martells then? So what are your reasons for supporting them? I've only read the series once, but I always became instantly bored whenever the story came back to Dorne, so I'm interested as to what it is Dorne / Martell fans like. :) Not that I'm asking you to justify yourself or anything, I'm just interested.

And hi to Strong Belwas! I'm amazed that username hadn't been taken earlier, now I think about it.

And a big welcome to any other new people I've missed. I haven't come in here for a while so I expect I've missed a lot of new folks. Welcome one and all!

  5. I keep answering that question with everything short of classical ballet and oriental/bellydance (and would definitely do that too, given the opportunity).

Why? I am hard pressed keeping track of all the dances I do. On a very regular basis (two nights a week) I dance the 10 international competitive standard and latin dances: Slow waltz, tango, Viennese waltz, quickstep, slowfox(foxtrot), samba, chachachà, rumba, pasodoble, jive. But I don't actually compete: I dance for my partner's and my own enjoyment. Ocasionally I dance Sevillanas and some flamenco, lindy hop and other jazz/swing dances, salsa and Cuban rueda de casino, bachata if there's no other music in the house, Argentine tango de salón, and a few European folk dances. I used to do even more, and also used to teach the 10 dances and lindy hop and present on stage or in formation dances, but then the kids required me to stay home most nights. Some say I am a true dance enthusiast.

Wow, I was expecting you to say one particular type of dancing, I'm amazed and slightly envious at all that dancing you do! Apologies if I asked a much asked question, I hadn't seen your answer(s) to the question anywhere else on here. There are so many kinds of dancing I'd like to learn.

  6. Absolutely! I intent to re-read the books as well, but since I just finished them, I'll still wait and read a few other books in the meantime. But I definitely intent to re-read them before TWOW will be released. ;)

Thank you very much! :) And thanks for the tip, I'll definitely check TTNE and the forum games out. :)

When I finished A Dance With Dragons I was like "Noooo, what will I read now?!", but luckily for me I received a ton of books for Christmas - 3 Sherlock Holmes books, which I've nearly finished and all the Hunger Games books. When I've read all that I think I might already be ready to start re-reading the ASOIAF books!

PS Do check out TTTNE if you have time. :)

Hey, i'm Hunter. I'm very interested in the ASOIAF series and the Tv Show. I'm on book 3 at the moment, but i'll be going onto AFFC soon. been looking for somewhere to socialize and discuss Game of thrones related topics, so i'm up to chat with anyone

Hi Hunter, welcome! If you're about to start A Feast for Crows, you might want to know: the pace does slow down rather suddenly after A Storm of Swords, which is probably the most action packed of the series. Not to give away any spoilers or anything, I just wish I'd known that when I started it as I was quite disappointed at first.

  7. I've been here since start of December, but I'll still introduce myself. I am a guy from northern Finland in Europe, who has been lurking here for years. Other than that, I like swimming in 4 ft snow, reading, fishing and running.

Hi Roose is Azor Ahai. Swimming in 4 ft snow!! That sounds like a lot of fun, (and very cold).

  8. Thank you all very much for the nice welcomes! :)

Yes, that's pretty close to where I currently live, actually. :)

Thanks. ;) Yes, I watch it on Blu-rays - turns out that those were really a worthwhile investment. ;)

Well I watched it once and liked it so much that I started to read the books - then I wanted to re-watch it after that, but couldn't wait, so I basically re-watched it twice while reading the books. And now a forth time after reading the books, because I couldn't wait for the fifth season - I just kind of missed it. ;) But I still notice new things every time I watch an episode - the clever little details in the writing, cuts and cinematography that you don't really catch the first times you watch the show because you are so concentrated on the plot.

Yeah the shows are really addictive, aren't they? I recently watched all of Dany's season 3 clips on Youtube and had forgotten quite how addictive and awesome the shows are. I'm planning to re-read the series at some point and I'll rewatch each season at the same time. (Well, 1-2)

  9. Hello you lovely bunch of people! Pretty new to the forum so I thought I'd say Hi!

Originally from the Caribbean, currently residing in The Netherlands

I'm a musician and book wurm, totally fascinated by this forum and its dedication.

    Let's rock 'n roll.

Eddard Scissorhands! That's an awesome name. Welcome!

    Hi everyone!

My name is Nina, I’m 23 years old and I'm from Germany. Since I really enjoy reading through this forum, I thought that I should register. ;)

I started watching the show about a year ago and loved it so much that I started (and by now finished) reading the books. I still really like the show (and I’m currently re-watching it for the fourth time), but I learned to love the books even more, and can’t wait for TWOW.

So after finishing ADWD, the thing that helped me cope with my frustration of everything being over (for now) was reading fan theories. ;) So I started reading through this forum and grew so fond of it that I thought I should register and take part in the interesting discussions. :)

In my free time, besides reading, I enjoy painting, watching movies and playing video games.

I’m looking forward to contributing to this forum! :)

Hi Nina, welcome to the boards! Wow, you've seen the TV series 4 times. Damn that is good. Have you got them all on DVD? I wish I had the other seasons, I've only got 1-2. I bought my brother season 3 on DVD for Christmas, so hopefully I can watch his copy at some point.

  10. Hi All! I'm new to the site and can't wait to start discussing ASoIaF (amongst other things with you all).

I'm currently reading A Dance with Dragons so don't want to venture about too much on here in case I spoil anything for myself but I will be back as soon as I'm done to start discussing!!

For now, I might just stick to this General Chat area.

    So, hello :)

Hi Reuben, welcome! So Lady Stoneheart's one of your favourites eh? That's interesting, I don't think it had occured to me she could be a favourite, although I guess Cat was never one of my faves, which probably clouds my judgment on that one. I think everyone here knows who my favourite character is. :P

Yeah def stick to the General Chat section to avoid spoilers. I'd say keep away from the 'General (ASOIAF)' section most of all, as I think that one is the most spoiler-heavy, as well as people spoiling what comes next with their theories.

  11. Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I do find this place very addictive. And I can see from some of the threads I follow that there are a lot of addicts lol! Seems like some people don't sleep! But it is way more entertaining than facebook for sure. And even though the show is somewhat different from the books, I can't wait for it to come back on so I can get my fix until TWOW comes out (please let it be sometime this year!)

I think it's highly doubtful The Winds of Winter will be out this year! I reckon one of the best things you can do to make the wait less painful is to just re-read the whole series. It'll certainly keep you occupied for a long time (It took me 16 months to read the entire series the first time around) and it means when Winds of Winter does come out you won't be all like "Damn, what happened with X last time?". I had initially planned on stalling my re-read for as long as possible, but changed my mind when I remembered about the final installment of the Harry Potter series coming out and I hadn't yet finished my re-read of the previous book, gah!

So yeah, re-read the series, then re-watch the TV shows, that's my plan. :)

  12. I just found this thread and thought I would say "Hey"! I am pretty new to the forum and have posted a couple times but did not know that I could formally introduce myself. I love the book series and am anxiously waiting for the next book just like everybody else...I live in California, was in the Navy for 14 years, and now that I am a hippy college student bum, I have time to lurk around on this forum and see all the awesome ideas people have put into theories. Maybe one of these days I can come up with a viable theory, but it seems like a lot of work and I am kind of a bum so...probably not haha. Anyway, so Hi everybody!

    Welcome, Lady Ginger!

I've only spotted one (pretty small) thing myself in the books, although I'm pretty certain everyone who's read the books will have come to the same conclusion as me. Besides that I try to avoid all discussions speculating on different theories, as I'd much rather be blown away by something I didn't see coming reading GRRM's own words than have the surprise spoiled for me on here by someone correctly guessing what might happen.

  13. Hey all! I suppose I'm ready to say hello. I'm Mike. 31, from glorious New Jersey, USA. Lurked for a while. Finally joined the conversation and wanted to say HEY! I'm really only a mobile user...so I'm not really sure if I'm getting in on all the forum has to offer.

Hey Mike, welcome to the forum! I'm pretty sure you can access everything on the forum from a mobile. Since you asked I'd just say be careful about accidental double posting, which I guess must be easier to do from a mobile than from a laptop. ;) Anyway hope you enjoy it here!

As a heads up to all who are spamily, or have ever spammed or will ever spam, the 2015 Spamsmoot thread has officially kicked off and nominations for 2015 Spamperial court are pouring in. http://asoiaf.wester...-spammoot-2015/

Thanks for the heads up HC!

  14. Welcome Håkon, FeedMeToys and Vermithrax Blackfyre!

Hey everyone, my name is Kris! I'm 30, I live in Maine and yeah...I'm into GOT. I really wish all of my favorite characters would stop dying though...

Oh and I refuse to read any of the books that go beyond the TV show..am I a bad person? I just don't want any spoilers haha

I usually can be found on twitter & various video game or pro wrestling websites.

I came here to sell off some of my HBOGo spots, decided to stay for the conversation :) Can't wait to meet you all!

That's funny, I'm the other way around. I know at some point the show will overtake the books, but as far as I'm concerned the books are the source material, so I don't want to watch HBO's interpretation of whatever scant outline George Martin has provided them until I've read The Winds of Winter. Which is actually easy for me given I don't have access to Sky Atlantic anyway and have only watched the first two seasons on DVD.

  15. Welcome Elia Sand! :)

No but everyone who makes trouble there gets castrated :D

Okay, well I'll make sure to give that place a wide berth then.

Ned stark is dead he is an imposter

    You, Sir, are a fraud.

Come on guys, what are you talking about? Of course it's me... :leaving:

  16. Hi guys, I'm brand new here as of today :-) I just spent the last hour trying to figure out how to upload an avatar for my profile lol Can anyone recommend any hot forums or groups to join? I'm originally from England but live in Australia now :-) hope to make some new friends on here!

Hey Black Widow, welcome! Where abouts in England are you from?

    For castration Island!

Castration Island!! Does this mean you're coming out as a eunach?

  17. Haha, I hadn't thought of it that way! I spose once I've finished I can then read the threads about different theories and all the parts of the forum I've been avoiding to avoid spoilers.

If I'm feeling extra brainy maybe I'll even join in one of the re-read projects.

Yeah you need to stick around too. :D

  18. Phew... That's a relief [emoji3] .

I really want to but this forum won't let me. This forum is a worse pirate than saladhor san.[emoji1]

Haha!! Well it grabs ya doesn't it? I'm 2 chapters away from finishing A Dance With Dragons. I'm hoping I'll still be around here after I've finished reading. My official excuse for being here will be over, lol. :D

  19. Thank you so much!

Damn i abused my post count [emoji1]

You joined 8 months before me and i have more posts... I think i should take a break or something...

Nah you didn't - I registered 8 months ago, but kept having problems logging in so gave up for a while. I've only really been here a few weeks, maybe a week or so more than you. :D

Don't take a break! Unless you really want to, lol.
