Col Cinders
I watched this scene a few times now and it appears to me that while LF it blathering Bran is searching memories of visions of the past. The line, "chaos is a ladder", seems to me a spontaneous utterance not a calculated, point-making statement. It as if he saw the exchange in his mind's eye and was unconsciously goaded into blurting it out. The data fit the current situation and Bran spoke it without a plan. I think Bran is smart enough to know not to poke the bear while he is alone in the room with LF and a weapon is already out in the open. But I also believe that Bran recognized in LF's face the power the phrase had when it hit LF. Bran then wears a poker player's mask affecting semi-autism.
