I was just wondering how different things might have ended up during the WFKs if Ned had married Cerssi during RR and Robert married Cat.I believe both sides would be in better positions Robert would have had true born children and Stannis and Renly would have no reason to rebel. Ned would would hold an alliance with the richest house in Westeros without being controlled by them and with Jamie in Kings Landing no twincest. Petyr's Little Finger Posted February 5, 2015 Share Posted February 5, 2015 The Tullys are nowhere near as powerful or rich as the Lannisters so Robert wouldn't have benefited much from marrying Catelyn. Robert needed the Lannisters bound to him, since Viserys could have returned to Westeros with an army, so Robert marrying Cersei was a good idea. Of course no one knew that Cersei was in an incestuous relationship with Jaime and that she would pass Jaime's children as Robert's. With the benefit of hindsight though, we now know that Robert marrying anyone who isn't Cersei would have been a better idea than Robert marrying Cersei. Welcome to the forums :) The reason Robert married Cersei wasn't because of power. When Robert won the IT, there was no threat for him from outside the kingdom. The reason he wed Cersei, was because Lyanna was dead. If he ignored the Lannisters, they would probably be pissed of because they conquered (or rather sacked) KL for him. That way, after the battle of the trident, (and the sack) Robert was king. At that point he decided to marry Cersei, because Lyanna was dead and he owed one to Tywin. How I see Robert, he would've wed Lyanna if she would still be alive at that point. To satisfy the Lannisters, he would maybe wed Renly to Cersei, or maybe one of his kids to a Lannister in the future. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
