I thought it was all slugs from here on out.I think they're first mentioned as one of the ancient enemies that the wasps fought against when Achaeos is telling Che about inapt history. There have been a few other mentions as well, although I can't remember most of them. I think in one of them (maybe Achaeos' story) they are mentioned as erupting from the Earth and the Moths then fighting them, this might tie into the vision Che has in Heirs to the Blade which mentions something about a threat buried beneath the Earth.
