  1. So I was watching a video on the Kingsguard and king to a honestly confusing problem, which I hadn’t noticed watching the video however, many times I watched before. And then when I went and looked back on the fandom page for more information, it only gave me two members Jaehaerys II Targaryen Guard, then it also said some things about who was inherited, and who wasn’t which kind of threw me off. I’ve always thought about this for some of the closer kings and it’s always annoyed mean when some of the Guards have 5 to 6 members already named, but neglect to name the other ones even though there is a list of houses that can be put on. I really like Game of Thrones and the Kingsguard and all that it is so feel free to correct, and know that some of these names are you completely pulled out of nowhere but I’ll give reasoning for them all. So it all starts with Jaehaerys II Targaryen he became king 40 years before story starts in 259 and inherits four Kingsguard survivors from the Tragedy three die. I say this, because I think it would be well written in the history books if all but one member of the Kingsguard survived, I mean the Lord Commander died, and he was the highlight of their order so losing a little, but the new Lord, Commander would definitely be something that I think would be written about. There’s also other things that lead into this, but I’ll explain that with the Guard itself. Kingsguard Ser Gerold Hightower named Lord Commander 29 years old at the timethis is self-explanatory it’s written everywhere that he took over and his stories pretty well documented. Ser Harlan Grandison 44 years old at the time now, the first thing I would like to point out with him is that he died of old age during Aerys II Targaryen reign and I refuse to believe that Jaehaerys, him and Tywin all named someone that hold to the guard namely the latter two. But this gives a concrete person who has been there probably since early in Aegon V reign and makes it clear why he died of old age roughly 20 years later. Ser Jonothor Darry 22 years old at the time is another unknown, but I feel like he should be here because he’s wildly unknown how long he served, and how old he is when he died. That means he could’ve been serving before the tragedy or was named after. Either way it gives him 20 years and makes him roughly 43-44 years old when he dies definitely capable of leading armies to war. Ser Gwayne Gaunt 30 years old at the time this one is a bit harder to nail down but my reasoning, for this is that he is roughly around the age that Aerys is when he dies. I put him on the guard at around this time gives him a lot of years being around Aerys which make some trusted, which is why he was picked to go with him above everyone else. Prince Ser Lewyn Martell appointed at 20 years old this is the one that people will question. But my reasoning is that it was highly unlikely that Aerys would’ve ever named him himself maybe Tywin, but neither man liked the Martells so after the tragedy make sense for me, naming someone like that would give him the loyalty of Dorne. Some probably say he was named close to when Elia was was about to be married, but I think it would have been written in the history books, or at least mentioned again that he became a Kingsguard around the time his niece became married into the Targaryen’s. Outside of that his age at the time would be extremely questionable if he was named around the time of the marriage I would put him in his mid to late 30s, which would make him around a decade younger than his sister, which would fall in line with Doran and Oberyn, but again a bring up what I brought up before. Ser Paxter Darklyn appointed at 37 years old died of sickness 260t his is solely off the fact that said that there are seven people poop and we only know five. After something like the tragedy and new guards why not pick someone from a family that has always been loyaland has had the most people picked from it in the past. That and you’d think they would at least have name dropped the last two people who are in the Kings Guard from this house but again they leave it empty which George might have plans for the last two or just didn’t but that leaves room for people like me to put someone like this here. Some might wonder why I have him dying and I bring it back to history if he was alive when the defiance happened he would’ve died in a king killing a member of his kings garden is very big news. Ser Renly of Fair Isle appointed quickly at 41 very few Kingsguard’s have just been noblesand in an emergency like the one at the time, finding someone good and loyal from the houses would’ve been nice but raising someone who he might know from around and trust would be even better. That’s this guy no ulterior motives just truly wanting to be there to guard acceptable enough to be in the guard, but loyal, which is what they needed at the time. Ser Barristan Selmy appointed two years later at 23 years old in 260 there’s no need to go through this man’s story. If you don’t know it, go read it or go watch the show find a tribute you’ll find out very quickly who this man is. Everyone who I placed on here is about the age that I need them to be for certain things to happen in the way that I think they would, especially with how things are worded in the books and show. So King Aerys II Targaryen became king 37 years before story starts in 262 inherits seven Kingsguard from his father. Kingsguard Ser Gerold Hightower named Lord Commander 32 years old at the time death in 283 Tower of Joy Ser Harlan Grandison 47 years old at the time dies in his sleep in 281 Ser Jonothor Darry 25 years old at the time death in 283 Trident Ser Gwayne Gaunt 33 years old at the time death in 277 defending his king Prince Ser Lewyn Martell 23 years old at the time death in 283 Trident Ser Renly of Fair Isle 43 years old at the time dies from infected blood in 279 I had him die around this time for one simple reason I need a place opened up to put Oswell in it’s sad, but yeah. You’ll see why when you read Arthur’s entry. Ser Barristan Selmy 26 years old at the time Ser Arthur Dayne appointed 15 years later at 21 years old in 277 death in 283 Tower of Joy I have Arthur being named around this time because it would’ve given him plenty of time to become a great warrior, and made them hold enough to lead the campaign against the brotherhood. But also places him near the age of Rhaegar who is said to be his best friend. Now one could say he could be a bit older, and that’s true, but being a best friend means that they’re pretty close in age end, making him more than five years, older, roughly kind of takes away that. Too old, and it becomes a mentor, mentee relationship, and it specifically said that they were best friends. This age also puts him somewhere in the middle of his prime around the rebellion which lines up with the fact that he was the deadliest man alive, probably ever to live. Ser Oswell Whent appointed 17 years later at 21 years old in 279 death in 283 Tower of Joythe same as Arthur and older, probably but not too old to be called a best friend. Him and Arthur also warden name dropped those people who trained Jamie so there’s definitely a mentor mentee relationship there. Ser Jaime Lannister appointed 19 years later at 15 years old in 281 if you’ve got to this point, and don’t know who this man is please, for my sake, go watch the show or read the books. I had some good fun, thinking of all the stuff and coming up with the characters that weren’t actually in Canaan then, but I truly think that this is how it would’ve gone when you think about who was alive at the time, how they acted and everything else that is said about these people.feel free to correct anything if you see a mistake this will probably be the only one that I do all of this complete typing especially from multiple people outside of maybe Aegon Vbut I’ll do that one just for a complete fine because I’ve already got a pretty good foundation from this one. I might do Daeron as well.
