  1. For some reason, I got the weird vibe that Daario is going to betray Dany from this episode.

Interesting tid bit on Tyrion and cersie, In a round about way tyrion has cost cersei two of her childern despite trying to save both them (albiet Joffery was relucant). He sent myrcella to dorne which in the books get's her maimed and in the tv show gets her killed. He also is part of the forged alliance between the Tyrells and littlefinger. I wonder if he will have a role in tommens death in a round about way?

In the books, if Aegon's invasion leads to Tommen's death, then you could say Tyrion putting the seed into Aegon's head to invade helped lead to it.

  2. If Jon is somehow revived through Shireens sacrifice or through the red god I truly think I will be done with the show and book. The only truly good character left cannot be affiliated with the red God or Mel, evil bastards. The others look like the only reasonable characters in this whole show now. I'm now hoping the last scene is Jon awakening to reveal blue eyes.

There are no actual gods. They are all myths and legends that have been built up around magic. Look at the Old Gods, they are just Greenseers that went into the trees. Pretty much all the magic we see requires the same thing: sacrifice, be it of blood or a life.

  3. Stannis burning Shireen in the books is ludicrous. In order to do so has to win the Battle of Winterfell, and once he does his plan is to push South. I suppose something could force him to march back to Castle Black for the purpose of burning Shireen, but that would necessitate a threat at the Wall her burning would counteract. In which case Mel and Selyse would almost certainly do it before he gets there. Its logistically difficult if not impossible.

The Northern lords will never back Stannis and most of his army is currently made up of northerners. He has very few of his own men with him in the books and they are dropping like flies. Stannis may win the battle of Winterfell, but he is going to lose the war. Jon's "death" may also change what happens when Shireen and Massey get to the Wall. Stannis and his daughter could meet up once again. Also, bookStannis has no relationship with his daughter and it isn't like he's been unwilling at other times to kill relatives for his own gain.

  4. I don't think that Ramsay is planning a real assault. He is probably just planning a guerrilla action. I.e. picking off a stray soldier, flaying the soldier, lighting something on fire and leaving the skinned soldier as a scare tactic.

Hopefully, Ramsay gets into a skirmish and is badly wounded. He returns to Winterfell and is killed by Sansa in the season finale.

I think Myranda will be killed in the escape. Ramsay will be livid that he just lost his three toys: Theon, Sansa, and Myranda.

  5. You can't not have Jon be the leader to take the Other leader down after a standoff scene like that.

Coming to a screen near you: Lord Commander Jon “The Bastard” Snow versus The Nights King, aka Puddles Jr. Two warriors enter, one shall leave.

Also, it'd be pretty useful to have an army of giants right about now. Wun Wun was brushing the wights aside like flies. ETA on Giant wights?

  6. Jon: I've heard it's best to keep your enemies close.

Stannis: Whoever told you that didn't have many enemies.

I wonder if this was referencing book Jon systematically sending all of his friends/allies away from him while keeping the people he doesn't trust close to him. That doesn't end well for Jon.

Is the City Watch cool with High Sparrows assaulting people in public and dicing people up in brothels ? Why would they let that happen?

Cersei probably told them to stay out of the way.

  7. Is it just me or does everyone in this show talk? Every single scene is just dialogue, dialogue, dialogue. There's very rarely a time when they just allow the visuals to communicate the story. Everyone is always speaking. I mean, seriously, B&W take 3 script pages to communicate something that could be established with 3 shots.

They are overwordy at times, but there are other moments when they use visuals: Stannis' nod to Jon, all the looks between Jon and Mel, Sansa's emotions are often displayed without words, Theon/Reek is very visual-based, etc...

  8. Will Edd join in the hokey-pokey with JS?

Does anyone else think that either the old lady Sansa talks to or even the old man that Brienne was talking to are actually Bolton people? My gut feeling is that one or both of them are.

No one is really discussing if Myranda is actually trying to help Sansa or somehow sabotage this marriage. Could she take up the role of one of Mance's people and the Ghost of Winterfell? She sure didnt seem to pleased with how Ramsay was 'treating' her. What was she trying to accomplish by introducing Sansa to Reek/Theon? I felt as though she was genuinely trying to warn Sansa of what Ramsay is, genuinely. But then again this is the same girl who hunted down a poor girl, Tanzy, with bow and arrow. This is building up to something and I think this is where the deviation from the book actually makes the show interesting to watch. We can all speculate that Sansa gets away with Reek/Theon ala Farya but we dont know exactly how it will play out.

    No.

    Maybe.

    Maybe.

It would be an interesting twist if the Old Woman acting like she is helping Sansa is a Bolton spy, while Myranda actually is the one that ends up helping her. But, like you said, Myranda has already been depicted as pretty evil in the past. Maybe she helps Sansa escape so she has less competition in Winterfell.

  9. The Bolton stuff was too drawn out. It should have been cut down. The "candle in the broken tower" is going to play a role in how Sansa and Theon escape Winterfell.

There are times in the books when I wish Essos didn't exist. But, the Seven help me, I'm actually sort of enjoying Meereen this season. Jorah/Tyrion weren't bad either. Poor, handsome Jorah, you've been JonCon'd. It makes sense, they were both friendzoned by the ones they loved.

The Wall scenes have been good this season.

  10. Not my favorite chapter.

It was a little too high school romancy for my liking.

Also, I hope GRRM stops directly telling us Sansa is clever. Just having her come up with the plan to have the tourney would have been enough for the readers to see she is a capable thinker. You don't need to have everyone telling us how awesome she is. Show it, don't say it.

  11. Even if Tyrion is a secret Targaryan in the books, he probably won't be one in the show. The show hasn't established that only Targaryans can ride dragons so it does't need Tyrion to have Targaryan blood. And it is far from guaranteed that Tyrion will be a dragon rider in either medium. Those dragons are probably going to start dying soon.

Anyway, it would be cheap to undercut the Tyrion / Tywin relationship by pulling a "oops you weren't Tywin's son after all" plot development.

If any of the Lannisters have to be Aerys, then I'm hoping it is Jaime and Cersei. Tyrion and Tywin's relationship is too good. Also, Aerys ordering Jaime to kill his father and Jaime unknowingly doing just that seems like something GRRM would do.

  12. Having Mormont's raven flying out of the pot or landing near Jon would have been cheesy.

The worst parts of the Brienne / Sansa / Vale knight fight scene were Turner's acting and Pod's over-the-top imbecility. I thought it was hilarious that Brienne just upped and declared her Sansa Stark. Half of Westeros is going know about Sansa soon.

Every scene Bronn is in is great. I think he survives the season. His character is too useful for TV. You can pair him with anyone and make the scene more awesome. You need to balance a drama with some humor or else you lose the audience. He does that.

I've railed against Meereen in the books, and never thought I'd say this, but I don't mind the Meereen stuff so far this season.

  13. Love that all the men are making either noble or smart choices, while the woman? Well I guess thinking goes out the door for them on this show. Sansa, bad choice after bad choice. Cersei, don't have to say much. Selyse, yeah don;t have to say much. Mel, I like cock, cock gives me shadow baby power, and I am dark and scary. Ellaria, grrrrr kill children who have done nothing wrong. Dany hey I know lets have ap ublic execution now put all the slaves here and the slavers here. This going to go over big. Missy, do you have a penis, Marg, plot, plot, plot, manipulate child, Arya oh kill, kill, kill, dead eyes, Gilly I know what an S is, yeh an S. Lollys I am so sweet and stupid OMG Jaime Lannister, breath, breath. Shit Dany made a good choice about the law being the law and holding a trial for a criminal, quick stupid public execution and lets not even bother with a reason for it, but lets make sure to show the men making the right call and Dany making the wrong one. Note the Tyrion comment, Cersei' best part and his. Not that Cersei is a good person, just consider it an overall theme that D&D are enforcing.

Yep, that's ummm that is a great way to depict women. So empowering D&D, good thing all the men are around to guide them and show them how to do things the right way.

Cersei and Margaery are depicted in a much better light on the show than they are in the books. GRRM's female characters tend to be stupid, crazy, and/or sex-crazed. The main exception is Arya, a tomboy and killer.

  14. Edd, Thorne, Grenn, and Sam were all great. And, while I'm not a fan of the show's interpretation of Jon, Kit Harrington is great in combat scenes. Cowardly Janos was pretty amusing.

I know I wasn't supposed to, but I laughed when that kid gave Jon a what up bro nod after he shot Ygritte while Jon just has a dafuq look on his face.

A lot of awesome shots this episode: The Giants, giant arrow sniping, scythe, mammoth, etc... I only wish we would get more Ghost.

  15. Yes, the Lord of the High Cheekbones is being unpardonably wasted.

They should have given Jorah more screen time and dropped Daario altogether. At least then we wouldn't have to deal with the awful high school crush Dany has on the latter.
