On Khal Drogo: I'm rereading LoTR right now, and I was surprised to see Frodo is introduced at the Council of Elrond as Frodo, Son of Drogo while I doubt there are many similarities between the two (badass warlord, and kindly hobbit), perhaps its still an homage?
