  1. Thank you for your message :)

Your French is very good actually. I heard it's very hard to learn my language but it seems to be a legend ;p

Yes it means I live in Geneva. Switzerland is a small country but a nice country ^^

Yes for your hand, with pleasure

    Merci beaucoup. =o)

Je sais parler le Latin aussi, alors je n'ai pas de problème d'apprendre les languages romanes.

I totally understand what you mean. I haven't had a Facebook in over 5 years, by choice. I don't need everyone knowing my personal details and day-to-day activities, nor do I want to be bombarded with everyone elses. But that's just me.

Americans DO share more personal information with each other on social networking mediums, it's true. For my BA in Sociology, I did a 4-month long research project and 30-page paper comparing Internet usage amongst Americans, the Chinese, and Swedes. My findings, based on previous literature, showed that Americans are a lot more narcissistic in information sharing than the other two countries by FAR. Chinese were the heaviest online forum users.

    The more you know! :read:

I swear I meant no harm in my curiosity in what fellow posters look like, but I'm sure you know that. I just think this is an awesome place full of what seems like awesome people. ^_^

This is interesting. It really is. And you'd be really welcome in TTTNE. =o)

  2. Greetings, everyone. B)

A brief introduction: I'm from New Jersey. I'm an avid fan of the ASoIaF book series. I've just recently completed ADwD. I really enjoyed it, but my favorite might still be ASoS. As far as favorite characters; Jon & Ghost, Arya, as well as most of House Stark. I could list many more, but those are chief among my favorites.

I've seen all of the HBO show and enjoy that as well. I'm going through heavy withdrawal after finishing ADwD, so I'm looking into reading The Hedge Knight. I'm hoping maybe someone else can give advice as to how to pass time till Winds of Winter. :dunno:

Anyway, pleased to make your acquaintance and I'm looking forward to discussing the books!

    Welcome to the boards!

And the King of Spam would know! ;) [_]P & (since it is just noon here, one could go either way. :)

    Of course I would. :smug:

  3. I would second what King Tyrion I said. You and I have no way to know who accesses the information, pictures and etc we put here. And to what purpose that info might be used.

    KT I: Indeed.

KT I, you can confirm or deny, but it seems to me we Americans share more than European and other non-American posters on this board. That's an unscientific opinion. And I have no explanation for why it is true, if so. Just something to be aware if a fellow poster seems stand offish.

KT I: I think I can confirm that.

If you would like to get to know a group of ASOIAF/Westeros.org fans personally, this is a nice group (imo) that both KT I & I are part of: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/112857-tttne-430-and-they-spammed-happily-ever-after/

You'd be welcome there. And there you have the chance to get us to know more personally if you want to. All it takes is an open heart and open mind for new people. And care. Care for people you befriend, because we are friends. We are there for each other in times of need and pull for each other - even if we live at different places in the world. We really are. That's no empty statement.

 for my friends! You know who you are. And I don't want to miss anyone of you.

  4. I highly doubt an employer or professor would care what their colleagues or students posted on a Game of Thrones/ASOIAF forum. It's not like anything here is illegal or socially frowned upon in any major way! Sure, it's a tad nerdy, but being a nerd ain't a crime in my opinion! :smug:

You'd be surprised what employers and professors actually *know* about their employees resp. students.

In times of Facebook where at least I don't have an account you can never be sure.

And there are other reasons for not wanting other people to know one's looks.

If you want a pic of your opposite, go ahead and ask via PM, I'd strongly recommend that.

  5. Hello! I signed up a couple of weeks ago and I thought that I had posted here before, but I just realised that I have 0 posts. I guess that I meant to post and then went to do something else...

I'm from Spain and before I started watching the show, the books were just another series in a long list of books to read. However, I put them at the top of that list after watching just one episode. It's pretty obvious who my favourite character is. He was my favourite in the books and he's awesome in the show as well.

All those French posts remind me that I should read more in French now that I have more free time.

    ¡Olé! Red-Viper24, ¡bienvenido'!

    Welcome to the boards!

  6. I love all this language exchange! Reading your guys' posts allows me to practice reading and writing in French so I don't forget what I've learned. I can understand more than I realize, though I'll admit, I have a hard time with spelling past tenses and conjugations. And I always have to Google how to type accent marks on the keypad because I always forget what they are. :dunce:

    Be welcome! =o)

=o) Je suis allemand.

Wow I'm ashamed, you speak French much better than I speak English :ohwell:

    Yes je vis à Genève.

Did you like Switzerland ? :)

"Yes, I live in Geneve". Je crois que tu as voulu dire cela, n'est-ce pas? ;o)

  8. Hi there :)

First of all, I'm French, so please excuse my English ^^

I'm a huge fan of Game of Thrones (no way ;p).

This forum is for me a way (to try) to improve my English and to discuss with some others fan.

(please feel free to correct me if necessary ^^)

I discovered GOT on TV, I read the book, but very slowly.

For the rest, I live in Geneva and I'm graphic designer :)

    Bien venue ici! =o)

Tu habites à Geneve? J'ai été plusieurs fois à Berne et Zurich. La Suisse est sûrement belle.

  9. Hi I'm Lance and I have a lot of interests that are classified somewhere in geekdom like gaming, superhero stuff, premium TV, and all types of sci-fi.

I'll mostly post in the Literature and Entertainment forums until The Winds of Winter drops.

    Welcome to the boards!

  10. Hello! My name is April. I'm married with 3 kids and another on the way. I just recently started watching GoT and I'm addicted. I'm halfway through the first book. It's awesome!

Welp, that's about it. Nice being here.

    Welcome to the boards!

Thank you! Geez, I totally have a crush on Sophie T.. a stunning lady! I have been a fan for about 2 years now. My mother brought me the books and said "You might like them", and she couldn't have been more right! I fell in love with Westeros then! I just finished reading Dance with Dragons and I'm anxiously waiting the Winds of Winter!

Thank you @King Tyrion I @Pollo de Uruguay! @Pollo de Uruguay always nice to meet a fellow Scandinavian!

And welcome WarriorPrincess and Carcer!

Heh. I also have a crush on her. And you're welcome.

Aaaand 120 odd posts later I finally realised there's an introduction thread :)

I'm Sam and I'm from England. I'm a part time novelist (hopefully full time one day!) and I've been in love with the fantasy genre since I was a kid. I somehow managed to miss the hype of the books and started reading after watching season 1 of the show, been hooked ever since :D

    So, hello!

    Welcome!

  11. Hello, everybody! I've lurked around here for what could easily be years, but never got around to register. Until now. I'm from Germany, I studied history and now I'm working as an archivist. I read A Game of Thrones back in 1997, but then lost sight of the series. Then I discovered A Dance With Dragons in my favorite bookstore, bought that and all previous books and was hooked since then ^_^ I don't have favorite characters, but there are several I find very interesting. For example Bran, I can't wait to see what will become of him!

I did watch the first season of the show and the first episodes of the second one, but then stopped, because for me the TV show can't do the complexity of the books any justice. And I don't want to lose my time with fretting about all the changes they make and all the things they leave out. I was quite curios about Oberyn and the Mountain though, so I watched that episode two weeks ago and found it pretty entertaining. Show Oberyn seemed to be just as cool as book Oberyn, at least.

Aside from ASoIaF I love Terry Pratchett, BioWare games, Harry Potter, Stephen King and the Roma Sub Rosa series. Among other things ^_^

    Welcome to the boards!

  12. Well, I have been here for a week or so, hope it's not too late to introduce myself. I'm an 18-year old chap from Finland, I have read the books and I'm a huge fan of Asoiaf and of course the TV-series. My favorite characters are Tywin, Sansa, Stannis, Ned :crying: Arya is a boss as well. And yeah Sophie Turner is awesome.

    Cheers

    Welcome to the board!

Sophie Turner is awesome indeed, as are Tywin and the Ned and Sansa.

  13. Thank you, but if i'm totally honest its Charles Dance that made me like him. Book Tywin pales a bit in contrast :smug:

Charles Dance is surely one of the greatest actors of our time. And I find it amazing that he nails this part without the knowledge of the books. He's played Lord Vetinari before, and I personally would cast him in roles like these. Of course, he's a Shakespearean actor - and that's great.

He holds a title that one of my best friends had when said friend was still alive and kicking. I was rather pleasently surprised to see that.

I'm kind of proud that I share a name with him. :smug:

But as much as I enjoy him acting that part I still see another face in my mind when I read the books.

    I like

    very much.

Book Tywin is a bit different of course - he's got more "time" so to speak.

Charles Dance's performance in GOT is a tour de force (not sure I'm qualified to use that phrase, but it seems appropriate). Book Tywin doesn't get enough page time to be as impressive as Dance. He's more of a foil for his kids.

Yupp. One could say that as well.

I heard that many consider Jaime's POV chapters to be the most enjoyable, along with Tyrion's. :)

In me you find a supporter of these considerations. Along with my friend HC.

  14. Hello again! :)

I'm a bit slow at the moment, I've only read the first 440 pages so far... but I made a small detour to bookshop a few days ago and bought the second book.

I enjoy the first book a lot already, so I'm sure it was a good investment. GRRM's writing style is great, it's so vivid, you can picture everything so easily and all the characters seem real and fleshed-out. I just love it.

I can't wait to read the third book because I read that Jaime will become a POV character then. I'm a bit scared though that maybe I won't like him anymore once I actually see his point of you and maybe realise that his way of thinking doesn't match the way I had imagined... and that I've only been whitewashing him because I like him. Still, there are many characters that I enjoy and that I'm looking forward to. :)

"A Storm of Swords" is great. I'm rereading it at the moment.

Jaime's POV is also very well written. You'll enjoy it, I'm certain of that.

  15. Hello world,

My name is Blair, i'm a huge fan of the show. As far as the books go i just picked them up this past spring and i'm still on book 3..if only ASOIAF were the mandatory literature in school ><

    • Jon

    Arya

    Davos

    Jamie

    Tywin

    Yay! Tywin.
