Few thoughts on prince Aegon and Rhaenys murder

Hey, it´s not a theory just a few thoughts concerning the events before the battle at the TOJ.

So Tywin sends the mountain to kill Rhaegar´s heirs. The mountain supposedly smashes the boy´s face, rapes the mother, kills the girl. Ned is pissed, he hates the thought of killing children and is mad at Robert for pardoning Tywin.

It´s a necessary murder to ensure Robert´s throne. It clears the way for him to take the throne, and for Tywin that means his daughter can become queen.

But I think there is another more self-centered reason for Ned´s fury. And another reason for Tywin´s commands. Lyanna is still alive at that point, and Robert is still in love. Notice how instead of taking an army with him to the TOJ, Ned goes with a few trusted friends.

I think at this point nobody in the rebel-camp had any idea about Lyanna´s pregnancy. Robert probably imagined himself marrying her after all. And perhaps Ned was hoping to negotiate with the KG, not using force.

Negotiate with what? Well, Lyanna is a valuable hostage. She could be exchanged for either of the children. Not Aegon who would be considered king by Targ loyalists, but perhaps Rhaenys. By killing both the children, Tywin ensures that Ned has nothing to trade against his sister, and he is hoping that will ensure her death when Ned tries to rescue her using force. Clearing the way for Cersei to become queen. Was Ned angry that Robert didn´t understand that calculation? Perhaps that´s the big reason for their argument.

Ned can be kind of naive in terms of politics of course. There is no way the rebels could have let Aegon live. Or could they? Bloodraven kept a Blackfyre heir hostage in KL, could Ned take Aegon to WF to keep him as a ward like Theon? Perhaps that seemed realistic in Ned´s mind.

This is perhaps stating the obvious. But anyway, it´s perhaps not always about saving the children, perhaps Ned saw uses for the children and understood how by killing them Tywin was trying to kill Lyanna as well.
