Sir Lee knot
I've heard a lot of people on here say that Westeros is as big as South America but every fan calculation I've seen shows it to only be about half the size of North America or if turned on it's side about the same size as Europe. Bright Blue Eyes
Well, Westeros from Dorne to the Wall (not including whatever stretches beyond) is about 5,100 km to South America's 7,600 km. Eastern coast to western coast is about 2,400 km, though in a more rectangular shape. Neglecting a couple bays and such, that's 18.2 million square km to South America's 17.8.Assuming 20% for these bays, it would be 14.6 million square km to South America's 17.8 or Europe's 10.2. Most certainly smaller than North America's 24.9. But notice that this calculation does not include anything beyond the Wall, where a lot of land is. Furthermore, the East-West distance is fishy. Please note that the very same distance at the Wall or in Dorne would be noted with 30% difference due to the planet being a sphere.

I kind of wish GRRM made it more clear but what can you do...
Bryden Tully
It's hard because of the actual shape of the land and the method of transports that are available. I'd say nowdays that people measure distance on account of how long it takes to drive or fly there rather than saying it's x amount of miles
