Reginald blackfield
Last year I posted a thread asking why Valyrian names in the free cities sounded almost nothing like Targ names, the answers I got were simple, that these were names of the previous inhabitants of the area whom the modern inhabitants were still descended from. I was hoping that TWoIaF would confirm this, but no, it only made the issue much more confusing, in it states that eight of the nine free cities are ruled by the descendants of the original colonists, so why are their names so different? Maester Drew
I view them as regional or local names (or in the case of Braavos a collection of names throughout the world) however it should be pointed out that Volantis carries distinctly Valyrian names. Or it could just be that Targaryen names are Dragonlord names and another set of names exist for lower classes... This is a stretch.
