He put up a dummy while he stayed hidden while his troops crossed the swamps. Maybe Roose can use the same technique against Stannis. I think Roose is most likely to run for the Dreadfort (which, in this weather, is impregnable), hole up, and wait for spring when he can reconquer the North (in theory).
