Tree Warg
Lets face it? It makes more sense than anyone else doing it. She has used stealth tactics before.Has made many miscalculations. Cersie knows she has no "control" over her "mad dog". She will be sent away when he is married. But, if he dies she assumes Tommen is too young to be taken from her. She assumes the Tyrell marriage would be off. There is more but I want to see what others think.
Stan the Man
I'm pretty sure that Ollena Tyrell and Littlefinger were behind the poisoning of Joffrey- Ollena took the black amethyst out of Sansa's hairnet and that was used to poison him. I'm pretty sure thats how it happened anyway.
Ser Illifer the Penniless
Stan the Man is right. Besides, Maggie the Frog said Cersei would see her children died before her. Everything she has done has been to thwart that prophesy. She would never (knowingly) fulfill it.
Tree Warg
That's what little finger said happened. He didnt day he had anything to do with it directly and when has he been known to be a credible source?
Tree Warg
Are you sure? There was an Irish Queen that once killed both of her sons to sit on the throne herself.
Stan the Man
That's what little finger said happened. He didnt day he had anything to do with it directly and when has he been known to be a credible source? He did essentially say he played a large part in Joffrey's murder to Sansa in the Sansa chapter following Joffrey's deathAnd yes, very sure
Tree Warg
He played a huge part in her escape. I do remember that. I think if he a Cersie worked together wouldn't they want Tyrion or the Tyrell's under suspicion?
Stan the Man
Well Littlefinger did want Tyrion under suspicion- he said that was why he brought the jousting dwarves. They'd get Tyrion angry, giving him a motive to poison Joffrey. I think the Tyrell suspicion comes in later under Cersei.
Tree Warg
Listen I am not claiming to be right. I am just not convinced that the author has given us the correct answer. As often he has shown to mislead.
Tree Warg
Remember? We were so sure the Lannisters poisoned Jon Arryn until...... A fat crazy lady spilled the beans.
Stan the Man
True, but I really don't think Cersei would have poisoned Joffrey, theres just too much evidence pointing elsewhere. Plus pretty much everything Cersei's doing is to try and protect her kids.
Tree Warg
Pretty everything Cersie has done is to her benefit. I don't think she really cares about her children unless it pertains directly to her. So, you're convinced it was the Tyrell's doing? Because I am not sure Martin would give it away so easily. Stan the Man
Yeah, it was a joint Littlefinger/Ollenna Tyrell venture. And in relation to the Cersei doing everything for her own benefit, she probably views it as a way to protect her kids- although I do agree she is absurdly self interested. Kiss of Fire
Cersei will protect her children...until they grow up....Joff just became a man at 15 and showed his true colors....I could see Cersei having LF poison the little monster...after all, she has two more pieces, I mean children to use for the "game".Oh, and I agree...QOT was definitely in on the deal. StannisandDaeny
Her POV characters kind of rule this out, right? I wouldn't have put it past her to poison Joffrey because she feared she could no longer control him otherwise, but there should have been some mention of it in her chapters if she did that. Besides she wanted someone that could kick Margaery around, she definitely wasn't happy with Tommen marrying her.
Rhaquentis
Cersei loves her children, including Joff. She knew he was a monster, but she would never harm him, she was willing to forgive everything he did. As Tyrion said in the show: it's her only redeeming quality :P
Tree Warg
I disagree that Cersie loves her children. I would say it is safe to say that she "thinks" she loves them. But, when push comes to shove she only cares about herself. After all, she supposedly loved Jaime more than anyone could understand... Remember? Tree Warg
Show me where she has done anything to thwart this? She has only done so in protecting her self. She has done nothing to protect her children. She was going to kill Tommen at the battle of black water. I don't even remember her lamenting anything for her daughter in those moments. Cersie is a sociopath. Seriously? Why is this so hard to swallow
