Eddard Stark did not die because he was naive and overly honorable

And again, leaving your "friends" or your "friend" behind is not really honorful.

Again, every option you give him would not be honorful. It woult either involve putting innocent children in harms way or leaving your friends to die.

Stannis is the rightful heir. This is not contradictory to Robert's last wish.

Wow, honestly? Just ignore the last wish and do nothing, because doing nothing is not contradictory...

The point I am trying to make is, that there was no golden way for Ned without the possibility to see the futur. His only way out would have been to save Robert that day. Short of that there would have only be the option to run for the hills. (If this would have been successful is not really certain! He could have been captured and executed anyway.)

So the only real play he had, would have been to tell Robert ASAP. This would have put him in the safe.

So please tell me exactly what he should have done and how this would have saved him and his daughters. Please consider that espacially Sansa did not even want to leave KL.

?

How is Stannis NOT the rightful heir to the throne? If not, please explain to me why would Ned try to put him in the throne?

Did you read the book at all?

Remember Ned?

How he made us all sad...

At King's Landing he could only end up dead.

Evenings he could have enjoyed with Cat in their bed.

Gods, why was someone else not chosen in his stead?

And to the king whose armies in rebellion he once lead,

Robert, he promised that to the prince his daughter would be wed.

Lots of dangerous people around him he had

Yet he did not listen to what about trust LF said.

After about black hair he had read

Never was a there better time for the words of incest to be spread.

Not doing so made him prisoner of the crimson red.

Although for mercy, Sansa had plead,

Joffrey commanded to have his head.

Oh, the horror would beat the humour even out of Edd.

Nevertheless, at least GRRM did not make him undead...

LOL

And see if something similar along those can be fitted in

"Do not crown Stannis, I beg", LF cried

"For he shall surely cut off my head!"

Yet Like deaf was our gracious Hand,

and against all good senses he went ahead

Though not one soul in the City Watch was loyal to Ned

He trusted LF to do his bid

IMO, Eddard Stark died because Joffrey (possibly told by Baelish) executed him.

Even with all the mistakes Ned made, he was supposed to be sent to the Wall. So I agree with the OP. But I would agree that Ned's honor and naivete put him in that position in the first place.
