Bill Herrick
Hey guys, Im new to this forum but I've been gaining a lot of knowledge from reading what people have written on here. There is one thing I can't find anywhere on the internet however. I am about 3/4 of the way through AFFC, the chapter where Brienne gets to the inn at the crossroads to be specific. I'm looking at the map of the South and I can't seem to figure out what the two X's on the map are supposed to represent. One of them says "Inn" next to it but I know it's not the inn at the crossroads because it is further up river than the inn at the crossroads should be. There is also another X near High Hearth, but I can't seem to figure out why High Hearth should have an "X" next to it. Am I totally missing something here? Will I figure it out by the end of the book? Thanks in advance for your help.
Ser Leo Targaryen
Welcome!I'm behind you in the book, but I always thought the inn of the crossroads is exactly at the crossroads! I remember when Catelyn was there (in GoT, when she took the imp) that she said she could see the roads meeting from there... So just look at where they meet and the inn should be there, even though there's nothing marking it...The other inn, with the X is the one that Arya and other characters have been before, right? I think the X is just a different code to represent something that is neither a castle, nor a city.
Peras
I am a bit confused with geography aroud the Trident. Is the crossroads supposed to be North of the river or South? I figured it would be North since Brienne gets there after crossing the river and visiting Saltpans but in the maps is looks like it is slightly South so What is it?? Free Man
The maps confuse me also (and I am a freak in Geography, and good with maps)... looking at the maps, the kings road is nowhere near the Twins... then, why did they have to cross them? Retoreance Stone
I think you guys may be confusing the inns, there two of them on some major roads. There is the inn of the kneeling man, which is close to the red fork and the crossroads inn which is where the kingsroad and the road you take to the Vale of Arryn meet. There is also another Inn that is not named west of the kneeling man.Reason why Robb had to use the bridge at the Twins is because it would kind of a bad idea to march your army straight down the kingsroad and he was heading to help Riverrun.
