I doubt this is a direct reference, but the "demon mask" tattoo that Jorah receives in ADWD as punishment for being a rebellious slave reminds me of Gully Foyle's mask tattoo in The Stars My Destination, as does his unchecked rage and his single-minded quest to track down his silver-haired paramour.

Hello! I'm Joh. Picked up Game of Thrones a few months ago, now I'm hooked. Halfway through my second re-read of the series right now, and still enjoying it very much. I've been stalking this forum quietly for several months and very much enjoying the debates and discussions and wild crackpot theories. :) Figured it was time to join up. I'm old (27) and I work too much. I have a two hour commute each way so I have a lot of time to read Sword and Sorcery novels and listen to heavy metal music on the bus. That's about as exciting as I get. :P
