  1. Non-spoiler discussion of the show goes here, for those who've not read the books or those who have but are happy to not actually reference them at all in discussion, taking each episode as it comes. This topic should open automatically when the show begins airing.
  2. I think that's sufficient, with a banner of some kind. Surprised there's no templates out there in Mediawiki land for handling spoilers.
  3. That feels like something that may possibly have to be marked as spoilers for S6-on, on the off chance some of these are too clear about significant events. I'd say differences between book and screen is the right way to go with handling events from the TV show. I don't know, maybe sub-pages for characters to tackle 'On the show'? It need not be in-depth, but I do think there's an interest in our having some relevant information alongside the book info.
  4. Was away when the title question was asked. I don't consider the titles spoilers in themselves, especially if you don't watch the show. Someone else has raised the question of how to handle season 6 events on the wiki, since we do have "on the show" sections for some characters. I'm not sure how to answer that. Should we avoid covering post-S5 material, should we see if we can implement some sort of collapsable spoiler box ala the forum, or something else?

I suspect this relates to a config change we made. I'll undo it and we'll see if things improve. You'll want to clear your caches later today to make sure the change takes effect.
  6. @Nittanian As others said, It's what George provided to us for them, and we passed it on to HBO, who used it in some marketing. Haven't updated our mottoes page because we haven't updated the shield as of yet. George provided the Dayne one to us at the same time, but in that case he noted he wasn't happy with it, so we've not published it.

I don't believe the forum keeps deleted posts in "trash", like it can do with regular posts.

Try visiting http://asoiaf.westeros.org/varnish-bypass.php?enable=1 and then visit the forum and see if that helps. We're having a problem with Varnish, a proxy that acts as a front end cache, and haven't quite nailed down what's going on with it.
  9. Alexander's suggestion of following the French wiki's approach by using clear categories, as well as very clear disclaimers, seem's reasonable. That said, it feels like only the Telltale game will get that level of detail, or is there anyone interested in approaching the Cyanide game the same way? And then I guess one has to wonder about the Green Ronin RPG adventures and so on... So.... separate categories and clear disclaimers, vs. just consolidating all the info related to those games on the respective articles for each game. What do folks prefer? Personally, I just don't want confusion when people read something on the wiki and assumes it comes from the novels. Nittanian's approach seems like a good way to combine with a clear and separate category, especially in terms of putting all the game characters under their house pages (or, if they can't be fit in that way, under the main game article).
  10. I think that makes sense, yes. Providing pages for each non-canonical character/location/event dilutes the wiki, though.
  11. Agreed. If it's not in the books, shouldn't be in the wiki to start with.

We've turned it off for now. Thanks for the report.

Yeah, the upgrade finally allowed us to turn that off. We're a discussion forum, not an art installation. Sorry for those who like the embeds.

See the forum upgrade post in announcements.

Yes. It's been reported as a bug but not sure if it's something they've fixed yet.

I deleted things fairly aggressively to deal with what I thought the problem was, but in fact it was the fault of a broken Tapatalk install. That has been disabled until further notice.
  17. Looks like some sort of permission issue, but I can't quite figure out how it works. Will pint Sparks to this.

I believe I've resolved the issue, but am not certain... and it's almost 5 AM here, so can't stay up too much longer. If you see a thread that does not seem to be updating properly (i.e. you post, but when you look at the sub-forum index it does not show your post as newest post), please report the name of the thread here.

Okay, reported this to the maker of the software. Not sure quite what the issue is, but I'm sure they'll solve it.

Can you give me an example of a forum that does this?

It's down right now. We upgraded and ran into problems. Haven't had time to test if we've got it fixed.

I think forum index updating is not done in real time, but it updates at certain intervals. That would explain what you're seeing. I'll double check that, however.

Yeah, that was me forgetting that Recent Changes is populated by a script that Mediawiki runs. It had only gone back to March 11th when I first looked and posted, but yeah, now it's populated it the rest of the way.

Yeah, those are alas going to have to remain lost, they were basically going to the wrong database. Sorry about that! But fortunately there were just a handful of edits. Thanks again to Rhaenys for pointing the problem out.
