  1. Oh, BTW, we dropped down to PHP 5.2.10. Scafloc, could you see if that fixes the template issue you mentioned earlier?
  2. I see. Removing the IPB Wiki check allows people without accounts to start editing. I need to see how to change user rights so only users with accounts can do so. I reverted the spammer's change. ETA: Okay, think I fixed it. No one can create new accounts from the Wiki at this stage. I'm not sure if people who set up an account here will have access to editing on the wiki or not. We'll have to hope 1.15 and the new IPB Wiki to support it will get the job done.
  3. Yes, I noticed that. I can't imagine it has to do with taking out CategoryTree. It may be a 5.3.0 issue which may be fixed when we upgrade to 1.15. Thanks for the temporary patch, Scafloc. :)
  4. Ah, no. I just meant that Sparks would be around less actively, and so the pace of getting things fixed might be a bit slowed down. :) Another thing I had to turn off was the Category Tree extension. Not really sure if anyone used that, but it doesn't seem to work at all with 5.3.0 and it hasn't been updated in a good while. Hopefully someone will fix it up.
  5. Okay. It's up. Sort of. Not strictly sure if everyone will be able to access it or not. I had to turn off the IPB Wiki bridging function, and I think if you have cookies that had you logging in automatically before, that that should still be valid. But if you've lost those, you probably can't log in, and so can't edit. Let me know if anyone has any issues.
  6. Interesting idea, certainly. :) What we're waiting on now is for IPB Wiki to be updated for Mediawiki 1.15. Once that happens, we'll try installing those two and see if that helps the situation... Although actually, this reminds me of something else I wanted to try first. *goes and tries that*
  7. Afraid so. The summer is proving the worst possible time for this sort of thing to happen. *sigh*
  8. Just to update, besides looking into getting help with the wiki problem from the IPBWiki developer, it seems it may also just be a general issue with PHP 5.3.0. It is a brand new release with a lot of funny changes, so to speak, from prior versions which seems to be playing merry havoc with MediaWiki and some of the extensions. We've contacted Sparks to see whether it'd be possible to shift down to 5.2.1 or later, but it's probable the wiki will remain down until sometime this weekend.
  9. In preparation for upgrading the forum to version 3.0, we asked Sparks to upgrade PHP and MySQL to the recommended levels. She's done that, but unfortunately it appears it's broken the wiki. I am going to be looking into the problem -- it may have to do with the Mediawiki version we're running not being up to snuff to handle the latest PHP and MySQL. It looks like the problem lies with the IPB Wiki bridge. I am going to post to see if it can be corrected. It doesn't matter too much, though, because currently IPB 3 and IPB wiki are not compatible (yet -- the developer says he ought to have a compatible IPB Wiki ready sometime next week). This will mean that the wiki will, unfortunately, have to be down over that time frame.
  10. I think maybe organization is still sort of ... up in the air right now, heh. I do know that there was some discussion concerning character pages. I believe the Jaime Lannister page was being used as the primary experiment and demonstration of our "house style" for character pages.
  11. Thanks for the heads up, Wert. Way too hot today for me to even think about doing the move, but hopefully someone else can. IIRC it was mostly just copying, pasting, and apending the attribution tag...
  12. A place for people to post a message introducing themselves to the forum, if they wish to. It's entirely optional to post an introduction, but if you do want to post one, do so here rather than starting a new thread.
  13. BTW, anyone representatives of foreign fan groups? I know the Spanish, Russian, German, and Italian fans are not insubstantial groups. It'd be amazing if more native-language wikis developed, so that we could all share interwiki links and perhaps other resources. :)
  14. And done on our side! Thanks for the pointer, Evrach. This is exciting. :) For those wanting to figure out how to link up our articles to the French wiki, see Eddard Stark. Basically, at the bottom of an entry, add: [[fr:<name of page on the French site, i.e. Eddard Stark, or Nord for the French page on the North>]] Just to be briefer and clearer, then: [[fr:Eddard Stark]] or [[fr:Nord]]
  15. George has largely kept such reckonings inexact. There's nothing to say "twenty years" is an exact figure, as opposed to a rough rounding of a figure that could be anywhere from, say, seventeen to twenty-three. So I agree with the suggestion that it should be noted as circa 20 years, or about 20 years, rather than making it seem that we're sure the difference in age is precisely 20 years.
  16. Angalin, Either! Someone could start up their own article, or if someone feels sufficiently capable, they could just translate the French article. That's not only allowed under the license terms, it's encouraged. :) Obviously, there may be ways in which we differ in organizing the articles, but still, a translation of an article would be a good start.
  17. Just to note some work going on in the background, Evrach and I are going to look into setting up the Wiki of Ice and Fire and La Garde de Nuit as inter-language wikis (i.e. the Jaime Lannister article in AWoIaF will offer a link to the french version, pointing to LGdN, and vice versa). Their wiki is much more complete at this time, of course, but the hope is that through this initiative users of both wikis will become more familiar with what's out there in the other language and, perhaps, be inspired to create articles to match one another more completely. The only hitch at the moment is that we're not quite sure how to do this. ;) But we'll figure it out. If anyone has information concerning how to do this, please feel free to offer your advice and pointers. :)
  18. Okay, I'm going to see about creating a new sub-forum just for Wiki discussion. Perfect place to hash out these things. Thanks for the input!
  19. In brief: An image can be uploaded if: 1) There is a Fair Use claim supporting its use (this basically fits something like a book cover, which are widely published by publishers, newspapers, etc.) 2) It is in the public domain (an image from before 1900-something-or-other, not relevant to our wiki) 3) It is licensed for all potential uses, including commercial use, with no other stipulation than attribution (i.e. Amok's images and those by other artists, such as card game art, roleplaying game art, etc., does not fall under this). What we have so far in the wiki are covers (fair use claim) and simple arms for some of the families (licensed under the GFDL by its creator(s)). We may shift to allowing Creative Commons non-commercial licensing, as the French wiki has done something like this, which would allow more images to be used provided that the creators specifically licensed their work under thos terms. But right now, we haven't, so the above rules apply.
  20. Well, we have allowed images now. Just remember to keep them within GFDL/CC bounds. :)
  21. Nice. I do believe that we have a timeline image somewhere, using the timeline extension. That genealogy is going to get much larger once the world book is published. And there'll be at least one more genealogy to add to the list, House Stark. ;) I'm not sure how far George has gotten with other family trees just yet, but the Targaryen and Stark genealogies are pretty complete.
  22. Okay, after some examination it looks like what's happening is that auto-thumbnailing is borked. You're supposed to get the thumbnail of the image first thing, and that's just not happening. However, the image is actually in there at full size. Why it's not working, I am not sure, but I'll contact sparks -- it may be something needs to be done with the graphics library that does the conversion.
  23. How large is it? I think I put in a limit on the upper size. It's also a rather slow upload link, as mentioned up thread, and could very well time out anyways because PHP has a limited window that it allows for a connection. If you have it up anywhere else, give me a pointer and I can see whether it's possible to FTP it directly to the server and get it to pull it in.
  24. Wow. That'd be terribly annoying. I guess it's a good thing I never tried it. Do you have just a general space to discuss the Wiki, independent of the actual Mediawiki, on your forum? Wondering whether this may be a good approach to increasing the visibility and getting people to discuss it. Right now I've stickied this thread in hopes it'll attract a bit more attention.
