  1. Hi Sarah! Welcome to Westeros! Hi Gretls! Welcome! I think Nox has given some good advice about the picture - try now. Or did you try gravatar? I have not been able to figure it out, but others get along just fine with it. As for the size of the picture, just check the size of your picture in properties and see that it is under 50 kb. Then it should load. With most of my pictures, I have to resize them to about 10% of their original size.
  2. Welcome to Westeros, Javiera! Yes theories there be here. One rises above all the others. R+L=J #109 Btw, you are the third person from Perth I know on Westeros now. :)
  3. Hi Michelle, welcome to Westeros! I'm from Vermont, but what I love is that there are ASOIAF fans from all over the world. Thanks to westeros I have friends from Russia, India, Australia, and of course, all over Europe and North America. As you can see in my sig line we even have a secret santa. So have fun. Feel free to ask anything if you have questions.
  4. I know, you know. It was more for the other folks who are from all over the world. Which is really great. One of the things I love about Westeros is that I now have friends I chat with regularly in Sweden, Holland, Russia, India, Australia, Dubai/Serbia and etc. I've never felt more connected to the world than I do now. :)
  5. That one is "pinned". Some threads get removed after 6 or 8 months to relieve clutter. Others like this thread and various others are deeemd important enough not only to keep but to keep at the top of the first page of the forum. Hi NymeriaReyne! :) Nice to see you! I'm in Vermont, on the border with Canada. Don't worry, your English is fine. :) Many on Westeros are not native English speakers so you should be right at home!
  6. Welcome She-Ra! Have you posted on the abbreviations thread, or do I misremember?
  7. Welcome to Westeros!! I'm a big Tyrion fan too, hard not to be. He such a fascinating character, in a good way. And Cersei is fascinating in a bad way - kind of like a tarantula or something. :P
  8. I think your analysis of Cersei is very good, and I agree with it. We've had various games where you fight over which character from the book you'd most like to have a romantic liaison with. Cersei is very high on the list if not the top. I always find this hard to fathom because while she is attractive - or was (by ADWD, I'm not so sure how true that is) - she is not safe to be around. And most of these people who are attracted to her, do not care for her much as a character. For me she's fascinating in a similar fashion to Littlefinger, or a poisonous snake. It's like you are trying to understand the enemy. Tyrion is my favorite, with Arya a close second. I'm also fond of Brienne and Dany. Hi Lou! Welcome! Hope you have lots of fun here. You'll find lots of people from around the world to discuss books and movies with. And if writing is your thing, there are people who do that too and talk about it.
  9. KT I is my friend and a good man, but everybody knows you should never trust a Lannister. :P They'll go RW and Reins of Castamere all over you. ;) Oh, and Welcome to Westeros Mark! You like Cersei?? Good lord . . .have you read the books? Just curious. :) I agree with Cora! Interesting indeed! :P
  10. Welcome Tywin Lannister_!! I see you've found some interesting stuff - 90 posts? You're well on your way. :)
  11. Welcome Tyger! I am a Dany and Sansa fan somewhat. But if you want to read some real Sansa fans try this thread: male fans who love Sansa
  12. Welcome Dobromir! You'll find you have at least one countryman here. I too love games - what are your favorite board games? I'm older (61) so I likely play some that you have not and vice versa. Some of the ones I really like a lot: TaYu, Settlers, Civilization, Tigris & Euphrates, Medici, Princes of Florence, Euro Rails. Those are a few off the top of my head. We have games here too. I posted a link in #2929, right above your post.
  13. Welcome Uhtredson! I've been known to lift a glass or two myself, but have never home brewed. I too saw the show first - the first two ep.s that is. Then I got the books and from then on it was all books all the time and the TV series was just something to grumble about. Although I grumble less as time goes on. They have some remarkable cgi landscapes and their casting has been by and large fantastic. Plot changes?? Hmmmm. Well, if you ever get tired of theories, come over and check out forum games - we have all types. ASOIAF themed games recommended topics for first timers Cheers!
  14. Welcome to Westeros June! Ask if you wanrt any advice on getting around the site? Good luck!
  15. Welcome to the mad house Westeros, Tony!! Hope you have ton of fun. Yup theories are us. The R+L=J threads have passed number 100 recently. With over 400 posts per thread, that's well over 40,000 posts about three characters, two of whom are dead when the book starts! If you like games and competition we have a whole wing of the board for all manner of mafia games, pictionary, guessing games, and etc: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/forum/18-forum-games/ That's where you'll find me, mostly. Cheers!
  16. Welcome to you both!!  Westeros is a lot of fun, Hope you enjoy it. But it in no way replaces the books. What on earth are you doing posting when you're not even done reading the first book! Seven hells, people! Where are you priorities??  Kidding, of course. To some extent. Oth, I am so jealous of you for not having read the books yet, and having all those pages, and all that fantasy fun to look forward to. I'm finishing my 3rd or 4rth reread and THAT is even making me sad. I either have to start reading something else (I could do another Dune reread, or an Amber reread - bleh!) or a 5th ASOIAF reread (probably). The impatience level around this site is so high, we even have a thread called, "Bump this thread every day till TWOW is released." Serious, serious jonesing. Now, GO READ THOSE BOOKS YOU TWO!! :)
  17. Welcome again AzorImHigh! Can't have too many welcomes, can you? Feel free to ask me questions. If I can't help I'll try to find someone who can.
  18. Welcome! Always nice to see a fellow cat lover on Westeros. Are you in upstate NY or NYC? I'm in VT.
  19. Welcome Liaraeyne! I'm curious about the origin of your name. People do such a great job of coming up with new and unusual names that fit the ASOIAF theme - or maybe I'm just easily impressed. I'm from Vermont in the states, but Europe is very well represented here. I spend a lot of time on TTTNE (The Thread That Never Ends - currently, here: http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/116924-tttne-436-the-pool-hasnt-closed-yet-put-the-umbrellas-back-out/page-16 ) and our little group includes two Germans, three or four Swedes, half a dozen in the UK, a Dane, A Dutchman, a Slovene, A Serb living in Dubai, a Hungarian, a Russian, a Bulgarian and a Turk too, I believe. (and I nearly forgot our Greek contingent! :blushing: ) I want to comment on your character likes and dislikes. I love that you include Littlefinger as one of your faves, and dislike Arya. Littlefinger is fascinating to me. I don't like him, but I find him fascinating. He turns off most readers with his lying and scheming, so I think they willfully underestimate his importance to the plot direction. I'm pretty sure he's going to be in the thick of things right to the end. I very carefully read the chapters he's in to glean whatever I can about his methods and intentions. The reason I like your willingness to admit you don't like Arya is that so many do like her, so you're swimming against the tide. That interests me. Do you not like the way she is written?s she unbelievable to you as a character, or is it more that she's not somebody you would like in real life? And I should say, I'm very happy that you put Daenerys high on your like list. It seems to be very trendy to dislike her for some reason. I find her to be admirable in many ways. Her struggles in Meereen reveal a good heart and a fair bit of wisdom and self sacrifice from one so young. I have a friend who dislikes Dany and all things Targaryen, but to me Dany helps make judging the Targaryens a difficult task - it makes them altogether a more complex picture to look at. eta I just read your likes again: Surfing? That seems a bit unusual for a European. Where does one surf in Europe? Gaming. Board/table games (such as this one: http://imgur.com/gallery/zhOGJTF/new)? I'm a big fan myself. Or is it more the digital kind? Computer games? Baking. On TTTNE you will find several people who bake avidly and then post pictures.
  20. Welcome to Westeros.org, Bucket! Nothing wrong with loving the show. That's what got me started, but once you pick up the books and see the richness of them, well, I know you'll draw your own conclusion. Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Hey Kikajon! I've been seeing you around for a while now, so I don't think of you as a noob. Any friend of forum games is a friend of mine! :)
  21. Welcome Narvi & Vote Tyrion! I love this thread. Lots of happy greeters at the "door to westeros"! :) If you have any questions about the site be sure to ask. If one of us can answer we will or we will find someone who can. Here's a link I share from time to time. It's a thread I posted when I got started a little over a year ago and I asked the "older heads" on the board what threads they would recommend to a noob like me. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/topic/92504-what-threads-would-you-recommend/ There's also a thread for abbreviations, in case you encounter one you can't decipher - it's linked in my signature line, below. If you meet one that is not on he list, post about on the abbreviations thread and I or someone will find the answer for you. If you like games, there's a whole forum for you. http://asoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/forum/18-forum-games/ And other than that there's a ton of chit chat about great books in entertainment; there's political discussion; there's even sports (we had a whole forum just for the World Cup tin June and July. Have fun!!
  22. Welcome Midwesteros (I like your username! :) )! I'll echo what Hutch said. When you get into the general book discussion section, even the thread titles can give away parts of the book - and there's lots to give away! ACOK is a great book and wish I was still reading it for the first time - I'm jealous of you. I'm currently finishing up my third or fourth full reread (lost track). One great thing about Westeros (one of many) when you are ready to move onto something else and you ask for recommendations? You'll get a tidal wave of them. :) eta The ASOIAF abbreviations in my signature line are themselves full of spoilers, believe it or not. You really won't need them till later when you're discussing stuff in various forums with fellow westerosi and you're trying to figure out what they're talking about. ;)
  23. I'll bet that av will find you fellow Egyptologists, if there are any. Lots of history buffs about so it would not shock me. Gillio tells me you already found the Aussie thread I'm glad to hear. Gillio's nice, I consider her a friend.
  24. Hey, another Aussie! Nice to meet you, Steph. I'm a Yank, myself, but my brother is a great fan of your country and travels there regularly. In particular, he's tried to get me up to speed on Aussie punk rock - Radio Birdman, Died pretty, Screaming Tribesmen (Date with a Vampyre is great!!!) and so many others I have forgotten. Also, as you can see from my opening, several of your countrymen are on Westeros and are not hard to find. That's a beautiful av btw.
  25. Welcome ScottishDan! Let me echo Jon Weirgaryen, I started with the show, and then picked up the books. The books, imo, are better.
