Blessed Tommen

Well, we agree that this is a society that cannot properly investigate parentage.

I don't think Jaime or Cersei need to be aware of Tyrek knowing things. He seems to have a far more introverted nature than Lancel.

Now Bran betrayed himself when he saw Jaime and Cersei having sex. He was almost 8 at the time. The page age is 7-8, and a squire about 10. Let's say Tyrek was 10 when he became Robert's squire. Since he was born in 286, he served as Robert's squire for 2 years. Two years where Jaime and Cersei took plenty of risks to have sex. He just needed to have a more cautious nature than Bran and less eager to please Cersei to see things without Cersei and Jaime noticing. As Tygett's son, Tyrek wouldn't have been raised to be one of the more prominent Lannister boys. Tygett himself grew up in the shadow of Tywin and Kevan, and he died of the pox. And we also see how much fun non Lannisters make of Tyrek when he's wed to Ermesandre. But he also gives sons of not liking how he's being used, but without putting up a fight. He sounds like a boy who learned to keep his mouth shut and stay away from the limelight, unlike Lancel.

And I think it's uncharacteristic for Varys to train someone to sing a song of lies... that is "make him say something that he didn't actually hear or see". We do know though that Varys prefers spies who can choose to be quiet, but also that he's able to make them talk only to him.

I consider the use of Robert's bastards as less of an issue in a struggle for a Targaryen pretender, especially now that the High Sparrow has come into play. Stannis made himself an unlikely candidate for the majority of the realm to muster behind when he became a Rhlorrist (in they eyes of the realm). At the very least he demands he demands that lords would convert and turn away from the Faith. And with Aegon as the alternative choice, producing Robert's black haired bastards (especially common born ones) the likelihood that anyone will try to make that bastard king is pretty much non-existent. But they would have been useful as extra visible evidence to help convince none of Cersei's children were Robert's. Anyhow, Varys doesn't have any of Robert's bastards at hand. I certainly don't think LS intends to surrender Gendry to the sparrows for this, not as long as she needs him to recognize Arya showing up at the Crossroads Inn. And LF is far too busy with Vale politics to mingle himself in KL events to produce Mya Stone. So, Robert's bastards won't be used in any such way I think, though for a long time George tried to create that idea in the reader's mind as a red herring. They served their plot to convince the reader and Ned Stark of the twincest. And all I'm saying is that Varys initially would have regarded them as one of the many usable eggs in the basket.

It's going to depend on how ritualistic and fancy GRRM wants the Faith of the Seven to be in the upcoming books. While an official blessing from the church's head honcho can certainly be made into an event, it can also be a simple putting his hand on the kid and praying, or even just saying a special prayer/blessing without Tommen even being present.

Well, I did find a quote of the High Sparrow saying this:

Quote

The High Septon pondered that a moment. "As you wish. This debt shall be forgiven, and King Tommen will have his blessing. The Warrior's Sons shall escort me to him, shining in the glory of their Faith, whilst my sparrows go forth to defend the meek and humble of the land, reborn as Poor Fellows as of old." (aFfC, Cersei VI)

I'm now leaning towards the suggestion that it happened between Cersei VI and the chapter where she summoned the High Sparrow to discuss his preaching about chastity in front of the brothels, perhaps even shortly before Cersei VII, when she feels super confident about ignoring the pleas to send help for the Reach. The fact that George had the HS spell out how he would do it, is for me a sign by George "that's roundabout how it went and no need to write a chapter about it".

Lancel does not return to KL before he received the letter that King Tommen agreed to having the Warrior's Sons come back into existence. So, the HS was initially content with the deal he had with Cersei, and i now assume did bless Tommen. Then Lancel arrives, abandoning castle, lands and wife he had just acquired, and a Lannister to boot, and mourning the prior High Septon and saying what a good man that was, perhaps dropping he feels guilty the man might have died because of what he told him. So, the HS discovered the Lancel-Cersei affair at least soon after Lancel's arrival, and after he had already blessed Tommen. That would have pissed him off. That's when he starts preaching at the brothels, knowing it's one of the crown's income. He had agreed to forgive the crown's debt to the Faith, but he could hurt her earnings in something else. And then he sent his septon fox and Lancel the witness turned Warrior Son to Cersei.

Works for me.
