Datepalm
I really liked Brin's Uplift when I read them, but I was about 10 at the time. (I've read his Kiln People and Glory Season too though, and they're not half bad. He's a somewhat overlooked author, for some reason.) About half way through Dervish House. Really good, very similar in style to River of Gods. The ever-so-frentic writing is beginning to wear a bit thin, but the setting feels more complete and more natural than River of Gods, the characters are more interesting and it feels like theres more of a coherent theme to the book too. I felt the same way about Dervish House. It doesn't have the scope of River of Gods, but it feels stronger overall.
