So they are definitely future proofing for possible subsequent series there.Numerous preservations of story lines foreshadowed with that casting.Not exactly. She's a major factor in the animosity and tension taking place at Craster's and everything that leads too.I'm sure they are planning/hoping for future seasons, but I would expect Gilly to be there even if they quit after the first 3 books.
