He is probably best know for Dougal in Father Ted and is a seriously funny and silly man. I think that he could give Patchface the kind of pathos/humour/darkness/silliness that is in the character and are difficult to do at once. For a minor character, he does have quite the backstory and has been around so long I can't help but think that GRRM has plans for him that he hasn't revealed to us yet.
