That's why I'm asking if you think structural (express limits on where the Federal Government may apply its power) are not necessary because political limits (voting the bums out) is sufficient to prevent serious abuses of power.I do think limits are necessary. However, I think that one cannot necessarily judge whether or not a governmental power is harmful simply because it could be exercised to a degree so extreme that most citizens would object. That's why we don't mind if Congress has a taxation power, but we would certainly mind if it taxed every possible source of income and property at 100%. In contrast, I think pretty much everyone agress that Congress should not ever have the authority to imprison citizens based solely on their religion (or lack of same).
