Blackhaven Posted June 29, 2013 Share Posted June 29, 2013 The RW caught me off guard and was very upsetting for me when I read it the first time. I'm a big fan of Cat, Robb, and his battle companions. I'm currently re-reading ASOS and I can see quite a few clues both for the characters and for the reader leading up to it.I've also read that GRRM, when writing ASOS, had to skip the Red Wedding chapter and come back to it at the end. He knew what was going to happen and was able to write the aftermath, but it was difficult for him to actually write out the details of the chapter actually taking place. While no one is safe in ASOIAF I think GRRM invests a lot into his characters, especially PoV characters. It's quite a talent to create characters that readers care about and not be afraid to kill them and replace them with others that readers will also care about.
