Shireen and Melisandre

Going back to the Lion and the Rose episode and the fact that it was scripted by GRRM, I can't help believe that the most significant scene in the episode was Shireen verbally dueling with Melisandre. It wasn't just filler in other words. Call it a long shot, but did we just witness Melisandre being challenged by the future Ruling Queen of Westeros? If not, was that the purpose of that scene?

I don't think this post belongs in this section. But to answer the question, I also believe that the scene implies something of Shireen's future. I'm in the camp of her surviving and becoming the first ruling queen of Westeros. I think it also gave us a chance to see exposition for Melisandre. Stannis, Davos and Selyse don't seem like company Melisandre would tell of her past, which we know a little of in ADWD. Maybe more scenes with Shireen will give us an opportunity to shed some light into her background as well.

I originally thought that scene was mainly filler, but you do have a good point, OP. Shireen has never really warmed up to Melisandre (I think she was actually afraid of her in the books), unlike Selyse.

Now I'm thinking how awesome it would be if Shireen becomes queen and Mel thinks she'll get to keep her gig, but then Shireen's all, "Nope, secular state from now on, bitch. Get with the program"

Shireen on the IT??!! Are you serious?? I don' t see it...

BTW: Can someone explain in short what this scene is about? I don't watch the show anymore.

Shireen's upset because Mel burned her Florent uncle (Alester or Axell, I don't know). Mel asks her what she knows about the gods. Shireen says she read the 7-Pointed Star. Mel says those are fables, that there are only 2 gods and one hell, the one where they're living now. That's it.

Stannis sits on the table and tells Selyse,(after she bitches abiut Shireen being an infidel and a monster) that she is just a child and his daughter and she shall not be hit.

Melisandre is then talking to Shireen yo "convert" her, but sge calls her out on her BS.

You know, I didn't pay that scene a lot of mind. I kind of thought it was an attempt to show the audience how creepy Melisandre is, and how she's always trying to influence people.

I know all that is pretty obvious to the people that read the books, but in the show there just isn't as much screen time, so they have to have little scenes like that to show people's characteristics.

But, I think your idea is interesting. IF Stannis becomes King and IF Stannis marries off his daughter to someone (Aegon?), then she could become queen, I guess.

Ok, thanks Stormland!!

Have to think about this and maybe re-read the Shireen parts... Never thought of her as a candidate for the IT.

Alester, and I think he's her grandfather. Sam's grandfather too.

Shireen will all but defiantly play a key role in WoW (and beyond).

As far as the watch, Queens men, and wildlings know, she is the ruling heir at the story's continuation.

I have a feeling she will be married off (well, marrage contract) to either Jon or Rickon.

The North & Stormlands are bound to have that marrage at some point, and it cements The North to Stannis's cause (and more importantly the Iron Bank's blank check).

I took that scene as GRRM realising he better give Shireen more screen time so audiences don't call bull**** like readers did with (f)Aegon when she becomes an important piece in the game.

:agree: i have the same feeling.

Robert said "We were meant to rule together. We should have been brothers, bound by blood as well as affection. We shall join our houses” and I think somehow it will come full circle.

I also believe that in the end Stannis will prevail but he won't ever sit on the throne because... he will leave it to Jon (+ Shireen).

Saying Shireen is a candidate for the IT based on the scene and what little she's had in the books so far is conjecture at best IMO. I don't get the impression at all, and I'd be disappointed in GRRM if it went that route...it's almost too happy for an ending.

She's a contender for the IT because she is the legitimate Baratheon heir.

Her cause is Stannis's, and Stannis's is the Iron Bank's.

Yeah I fear so too but I can hope, she's one of the sweetest modest kids in Westeros, I mean even other kids can be monsters there.
