To what extent could The North support Stannis?

Lord Rhaegel Tarly

If Stannis wins the Siege of Winterfell, and rallies the majority of northern houses to his cause, what are their next move? The Others? I think the northmen will dismiss him (stupidly) and take him for some madman. My other theory is that he will move south: either to the Vale and Riverlands to gain the support of the river and vale lords, or use Wyman Manderly's fleet to take King's Landing from whoever sits the Iron Throne at the time.

Unless the snow storms stop he is going nowhere. At this rate he could just about make it to Winterfell. My guess is he goes back to the Wall to fight the Others. All the pieces are there for Stannis to rapidly gather a large army & navy to invade King's Landing and take the Throne but its not going to happen in this story.

What scale are we rating it on? If I had to guess, every house except the Boltons are going to end up supporting him or whoever he makes Warden of the North.

And the Boltons are probably gone at that point. Come to think of it who would Stannis name as the new lord of the Dreadfort?

Edit. He might marry one of his supporters to Fat Walda and make him the new lord.

Only if he wants the guy dead by northern blades. Fat Walda is a Frey.

He'll just have to name a Lord. Or rather, Rickon Stark will do.

But isn't Fat Walda the legal lady of the Dreadfort after Roose and Ramsay are dead? Actually it might depend on who dies first Roose or Ramsay. If Roose dies first Jeyne pool becomes the lady of the Dreadfort, and if Ramsay dies first Walda becomes the new lady of the Dreadfort.

Ramsay, Walda, and Roose are going to die, well assuming Roose isn't undead*. Ramsay's marriage to fArya is a sham, and Stannis would dissolve it anyway. Ramsay has no legitimacy in Stannis' eyes.

* don't actually believe that

He might also divide the Bolton lands between the lords of the North, and ransack the castle for the loot he needs to repay the Iron Bank.

No. Roose's son by Walda would be the heir. She herself is utterly unimportant and has no claim. And she is hated with a passion.
