My MS Paint Map Drawing for The Known World

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm not sure if this is the place to put this but I drew a map of The Known World in ASOIAF/Game of Thrones and I wanted to share it with the community. I used MS Paint to do it all. You can see a link below.

It's a very crude map, I know, and not exactly to scale (The North is too small in size for example). However, I've struggled to find a Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire map that matches the level of detail I want. Obviously The Lands of Ice and Fire is fantastic for its individual maps. It's map of the entire Known World, however, is not detailed enough to my liking.

I have decided to draw out the entire map, include all known settlements and for the Seven Kingdoms have also written the family house that occupies that settlement at the beginning of A Game of Thrones/Season 1. I've also included Ironrath and Highpoint (homes to House Forrester and House Whitehill in the Game of Thrones Telltale video game) in the general Wolfswood area.

The HBO Game of Thrones map is very different compared to the ones found in The Land of Ice and Fire. The closest map I could find with the level of detail I needed was Kevin Hatch's...http://kevinhatch.com/media/kh-asoiaf.pdf. However, this was a speculative map created years ago. It has some inaccuracies and lacks most of the very eastern lands of Essos. Nevertheless, he inspired my idea to draw this map as did George R.R. Martin, Linda Antonsson and Elio Garcia for their work on the ASOIAF universe. I have given them credit.

Let me know what you think!

I can't zoom in :(

Hi Falcon. It seems there's some issues with Scribd. It's a PDF so you'll need to give it a download. I have now included a dropbox link which should make downloading easier. Some of the transparency in the PDF appears to be lost but once you save the PDF, the map will appear as it should. I know that's awkward so if anyone has any suggestions on easier ways to access the PDF, let me know. This forum seems to have a content uploader but this feature seems to have been disabled at the moment.

All in MS paint? Very impressive!

Yes Ran, it's all in MS Paint (barring the text on The Wall which I had to add in on Adobe Acrobat afterwards). I'm no cartographer and I don't have any map drawing software so MS Paint had to do the job.
