Zoë Sumra
Mods: I think this belongs here (or even in General) rather than in the BWB forum, by virtue of its content. Please move thread if you disagree.LonCon 3, the 2014 Worldcon in London, announced its call for academic papers earlier on today. Professors/teachers, students and independent researchers are all encouraged to submit abstracts. This covers quite a lot of board members.Suggested formats are lectures, presentations, round table discussions and workshops. All papers/presentations should be on the theme of Diversity in Speculative Fiction. Proposals related to London or to the guests of honour's works are particularly welcomed. Suggested topics include but are not in any way limited to:- Representation of alternative sexualities- Speculative fiction by writers and producers of colour- Non-English language media and/or fandoms- The fantastic in unexpected places (greetings cards, pornography, opera, football stadiums)- Digital comics- The role of speculative fiction in Live Action Role-Playing- The fantastic in music videos- Speculative fiction in advertising- European horrorAbstracts must be received by 31st October 2013. Only apply if you intend to go to the convention: you must become a member by 1st May 2014. (I recommend joining earlier, in fact up to a year earlier, as you'll save a few £. The first price rise is going to happen on 1st May this year, as opposed to next year, the deadline for presenting academic members.)So - time to start planning!
