  1. LOL Rhaenyra swiping left on Westerosi Tinder
  2. ^Yes you are right, the edges of Seasmoke's wings are reddish in colour from below and above
  3. I can see it happen, people declaring their allegiance to either side Were there? Do not remember. There were a few things I may have laughed at, but there was no comic relief used to ease the tension anytime Maybe it is a necessary missing ingredient for a show like this, but I am not missing it so far
  4. I watched with a friend who had not seen GOT or read ASOIAF, or FAB. They really liked the dragons and said the special effects were spectacular. For those kinds of audiences, Laenor on the Dragon may not even be a surprise. They just know him as some dude on dragonback, without any context of why he should or should not be riding one. In stories with multiple first person narratives, fans always find a way to reorder the sequences... which is one of the things I enjoy about this community lol, its nice to imagine how these would work, and many of them are actually better than what the showrunners come up with. However, in this series, I like the random, unpredictable time-jumps, they let the story flow along very smoothly, and is a great choice for telling this kind of a story. Was not at all disappointed with Crabfeeder, it was better to show the end this way than a messy and possibly gratuitous one on one combat that you know Daemon is going to win. Like here the showrunners are clearly showing, we will not pander to every expectation. The audience is free to imagine the encounter, and I kind of really like that!
  5. Presumably, sex scenes, gore, and dirty jokes... or just any jokes ^this bit does not make sense to me. Like, what exactly is the reasoning from both sides? Rhaenyra has been named heir. Her best friend is her new mom, and there are whispers about her half-brother replacing her. However, Rhaenyra does not have specific plans, is not behaving like the heir, even though fully supported by Viserys. Yes, it can get messy when your only parent is constantly pushing you to marry, but the mutual animosity seems to be stemming from something more... which is not clearly explained.
  6. Caraxes looked like Smaug for a second there ^^
  7. What is building between Rhaenyra and Daemon right now is just a tradition of gift giving. Daemon is showing very nicely how it starts. It is pretty ambiguous at the moment. The end is not necessarily how it is being depicted right now. Both of them are clearly unaware of what is brewing and are immature, with too much power in their hands. Okay, the egg toss was also nonchalant. Yes, there has to be a deeper meaning to all of this.
  8. ^black identified Okay. Phew lot to unpack here, yes first of all Deamon's motivations are unclear. He wanted to provoke his brother, which is the interpretation that Viserys confirm. He is testing the boundaries of his cage like a velociraptor, is the best explanation of his behaviour that I can come up with. It can be boring. The crabs in the bodies can be educational, at least it hints at the real extremes that the pirates went into. they have the backing of historical accuracy there. There is a measure of theire braveness in how uncomfortable the directors can make people, but that is also looked upon as how satisfied you can make certain audiences. A cup bearer is a very elevated position, and not easily given to people in histories and mythologies, Another aspect of the social stratification that the show shows very clearly is just the class divides.
  9. There is one thing that no one is talking about... the disease. Is it greyscale? Is it something else because he has a Dumbledore hand now?
  10. There is a difference between provoking and pandering, and often the same material/content can do both. It is a very delicate tasks with no agreed upon rules. There are some things that can be written and published easily but are challenging to show on screen. It is not surprising that these things are clumsily handled.
  11. I was looking out for him too. IK the announcer at the tourney was not a dwarf, but maybe he was Mushroom? Look, it's just about possible because the midget Tyrion became a dwarf on screen, so kind-of not really makes sense that a dwarf is regular sized.
  12. IMO, the show went for really close sisters as against queer-baiting (this is what the actors claim in the Character Features anyway), but considering its prevalence, and possible use in GoT, I would not grudge someone taking the opportunity to talk about it, if only to raise awareness. Tyrion was one of the highlights of the early seasons, but yeah towards the end it had devolved to weird jokes about the private parts of Varys. I hope this show has some good scenes with more subtle humour like the unexpected heart to heart between Robert and Cersei, or when Arya became Tywin's cupbearer at Harrenhal.
  13. I can easily understand what Mysaria is saying lol. Wish she was an albino, irrespective of race. Just cannot place her on the map, is she supposed to be from Lys or Lorath or further east like Yi Ti. Polyandry can solve the problem with succession between say two brothers, if they are married to the same wife, and the children are considered heirs to all three.
  14. These include streaming numbers... think it is going to go up a lot more because the binge watchers will wait for a few episodes to come out.
  15. Yeah I am surprised there is almost no discussion about the previews, the extras (Behind the scenes and Character Portraits), or HBO's site which all offer clues on where things are going. Things are gonna get pretty epic. Feel I'm an outlier for not missing the comedy at all.
  16. Hmm... There was Otto to check her choice, which he did. Also, since Otto and Harrold Westerling have selected the potential candidates, presumably all of them have been 'pre-approved'. What is a little weird is how Rhaenyra's is asked to choose the Kingsguard as a way to take her out of the small council discussion, and we move to the less important of the two discussions. When the issue of what is to be done in the Stepstones is addressed again, it is funny how Corlys proposes the marriage to Laena as a solution to the troubles in the Stepstones? Sure it is disguised as a solution for how weak Viserys appears or is perceived... but the show does cut away at a very interesting point, leaving the audience hanging about what actually takes place between Corlys, Viserys and the rest of the Small Council. Otto should have been there, instead of overseeing Rhaenyra's dedcision.
  17. Rhaenys herself makes it clear that she did not have much support to the claim, so yes, the two eldest descendents of Jaehaerys were the strongest claims, but guess it is meant to be interpreted as Viserys was chosen by the lords, overwhelmingly, between those two. Yes, I remember thinking the same thing. For whose benefit did they have the minifigures for those shortlisted to be part of the Kingsguard? Yes... he is relatively calm till Rhaenyra asks which egg specifically. Only on hearing the answer does he get angry enough to take some action.
  18. Okay so Daemon was needling Viserys? That makes more sense than my head canon... that he was acting out his fantasies. Another explanation was that the show was deepening the comparison to Maegor. But doing something to provoke Viserys makes a lot of sense, especially since the show shows that Viserys was angered enough to take extreme steps.
  19. Oh so many replies already! I didn't like the title sequence too, like many others. Didn't like it because it looked too artificial... Like the Targaryen Sigil was just floating in mid air in the end. I didn't recognise any of the sigils and devices on the way. If it was supposed to be Old Valyria as modelled by Viserys... don't see the relevance to this show, although it would have been appropriate for the cancelled prequel set in Valyria. Hope this changes in future episodes. I didn't understand Daemon's stunt at all... like why did he do it if Mysaria was not actually pregnant? Really like Mysaria's character though, want to see what she becomes. The interaction between Syrax and Caraxes, was pretty cool to watch. Looking forward to Vaghar showing up. Also looking forward to the Manderleys, especially as they were written out of GoT.
  20. Think Otto is like a mix of Twin and Varys, this is based on the character feature where he talks about his network of spies. I think he does love his daughter, and Alicent has some idea about his grand schemes, because of the questions she asked her father. They seem to be working together to strengthen the position of the house in Westerosi politics. It seemed like she was confirming a plan as against being surprised when her father asked her to go to Viserys. You are right though, competent people are seen with suspicion for some reason in GoT.
  21. Lol Book reader here, wrong on Tourney, both options for The Purge look good, and agreed on the last And when it comes to Viserys, he does seem to be trying to please everyone in the council, which is exactly what makes him weak.
  22. Daemon has started giving his series of gifts to Rhaenyra...
  23. The character features contain some nice shots of future scenes, and explain more about the how the actors are approaching their roles. They also show that Alicent and Rhaenyra are like sisters. The violence of the tournament did not strike me as being out of place, like the way it was juxtaposed with the childbirth sequence, that was a pretty powerful portion of the episode. After reading some of the posts here though, I do hope there is a 'true knight' like Barristan Selmy.
  24. Oh wow not a bad rating at all! I'm among those who voted 8 I liked the way they introduced the characters by their names in the end, thought that was a smart way to do it. Not so impressed with the dragon flying scenes in the start, or the text that disappeared to show '172 years before Daenerys Targaryen', I can hold a complete sentence in my head! Really liked the aquatic flares on Caraxes tho.
  25. ^going to read that series   from the world book     This seems to be the Conquest of Gaul / Civil War commentaries by Julius Caesar
