Pat Rothfuss XVII: Games, Bets, and Minecraft
Jamie Lannister replied to Ser Scot A Ellison's topic in Literature
I don't know. If Rothfuss couldn't commit to an Edema Ruh rapist without the "but not real Ruh :^)" disclaimer then I doubt Kvothe himself is going to stain their name on a global scale. -
Her closure seemed the most directionless of all the main characters. Her clichéd "hero strikes off alone to go see the world" ending felt like such an afterthought, like they had no idea what to really do with her.

Was the valonqar even on the table here? I thought the Maggy vision omitted it in the show. You're right though. Jaime ultimately had no character development, he didn't change or grow as a person at all. It was just a character examination. We see that he's not quite as bad as he first seems, but is ultimately the exact same man he was in S1E1. I'm so torn. It's awful, but I kind of buy it for the show. They made Jaime so much more detestable and Cersei so much nicer that it almost makes sense for these two characters. But it's not at all what I want or expect from the books.

I'm confused at these people happy with NK dying like a chump because "the real meat of GoT is political intrigue, grey morality, not good vs evil." Are you joking? Cersei and Euron are about as shallowly evil as he was. This show has been neatly divided between TEAM GOOD and TEAM BAD for a while now.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 803?
Jamie Lannister replied to Ran's topic in E03: The Long Night
You remember that Avatar: TLA episode, where the gang hides out in the Fire Nation and watches a parody of their adventure so far that's just rife with mischaracterisation, terrible dialogue, and absurd plot, but "at least the effects were decent"? The effects were really fucking decent. So was the music, the cinematography, the atmosphere. Dragons savaging each other above the clouds in a blizzard, the Lich King swooping down to blow everyone the fuck out while his pet sears the castle with its ice beams? The cannon fodder army with their flaming swords, a 5'0 ninja mowing down hordes of zombies? Good God that shit was enjoyable. Stupid as all fuck, but so very enjoyable. Just a shame the story sucked except for Mel's stuff. -
Not gonna lie, the six or so seconds of silence between Jaime and Bran alone made this entire episode worth watching to me. Those were six or so seconds of wordless excellence. A great call back to S1E1.

Eh, 5, mostly for the battle at the end. That was actually pretty cool.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 606?
Jamie Lannister replied to Ran's topic in E06: Blood of My Blood
6/10. Would be a point or two lower but Walder is amazing.- 276 replies

Solid 8. Easily the best of the season so far. Could've done with a little less Arya, the first Tyrion scene was flaky, and the Ironborn stuff is really suffering from this dude's oddly uncharismatic (IMO) portrayal of Euron, but I found a lot to like in this ep. Even the Dany stuff was decent.

[Poll] How would you rate episode 604?
Jamie Lannister replied to Ran's topic in E04: Book of the Stranger
A generous 4. Awful ending aside, it was just... boring, more of the same conversations spoken with slightly different words. The excellent Pryce doing the same thing he's done every episode thus far, Tyrion taking half an hour to shrug his shoulders and say kinda sorta but not really, etc. We're halfway through the penultimate season (I think) and the amount of time they're devoting to repetition is just baffling to me. I appreciate build-up and foreshadowing, but why are we only getting this now? Why did it take so many lengthy speeches for Elliot Carver to give us his backstory, four episodes of pointless floundering for Cersei to put a plan into motion? Maybe I'm being too harsh and it's just Dany getting to me. I can't stand Emilia's Dany, and an episode of her suspense-free posturing (come on, did you think for a second that that was going to end in anything but total, predictable victory for our "silver"-haired heroine?) was bound to disappoint. Daario and Jorah continue to be the least interesting "duo" the show's ever contrived (seriously, give this trope a rest D&D) and not even Conleth's spectacular Varys can save the funny dwarf man from succumbing to Essos' plague of frustrating irrelevancy. I did like Jon and Sansa's interactions. I thought it was nice how the two Stark kids who never even liked each other can reunite with such warmth after all they've been through. Quaint. The Pyke stuff was alright but I worry no one is going to care; Yara is thoroughly unlikeable, and most show-only viewers I know are already soured on "that evil cringey pirate dude" from the last episode. I'm really surprised at how much people seemed to like this ep here. -
Solid 8/10. Really good episode. The Dany/Tyrion fanfiction was awful but pretty much everything was great, especially Jon's stuff.

Maybe they'll bring back that cute Asian priestess from episode 4. That whole scene was pretty ominous.

6/10. The Bolton OC is enjoyable, Roose & Ramsay are still fascinating, Sansa's still hot, Jon's scenes continue to impress, and the looming fight with Stannis is intriguing, but not a lot else had me enraptured. The effects were decent. The dragons looked great.

5/10. I don't usually enjoy the catch-up premiers and this didn't break tradition, but it was still peppered with a few cool scenes. The ending was pretty great even with its implications.

How would you rate episode 408?
Jamie Lannister replied to Ran's topic in E08: The Mountain and the Viper
It's apparently a metaphor for the senseless death in the series; that is, that one can't understand it no matter how hard one tries. It was a shit scene and if that is what they were going for, it's pretty lame. Gave the ep a 6/10. The duel was enjoyable, Sansa was cute, and Roose/Ramsay were great, but the rest... eh. Too much filler.- 610 replies

How would you rate episode 406?
Jamie Lannister replied to Ran's topic in E06: The Laws of Gods and Men
8/10, mostly for the trial. Asha's little trip was a baffling waste of time, but Christ... that trial. Even Jaime's early role in it fit perfectly.- 394 replies

5/10. Felt slow and plodding for most of the episode, with some truly stupid scenes (Jojen the pyromancer? What?) and a rather unengaging feel. The ending was admittedly fun and I liked the Eyrie save for the really inelegant exposition about Lysa's misdeeds, but overall it was by far the worst ep of the season. At least the effects were decent?

Yeah, I thought he reacted pretty naturally to having Natalie Dormer lips a hair's breadth away from his. He certainly went to sleep a lot happier... Really, he's taking the whole thing in the way you'd expect a sexually naive fourteen/fifteen-year-old boy to. He's smitten and confused.

A solid 8. I felt like most of the changes and additions here worked really well, including the Night King's teaser and Land of Always Winter. Tommen and Marg developing a very suggestive, "first love" (on his end) kind of relationship, while still suitably creepy, works really well given their new ages, and it looks like it'll be amusing to watch. Considerate of them to get Dany out of the way quickly too. Thanks Bryan.
