They never have an actual opinion on the show though. Every single week it's the same thing. Show critics criticize the show, show lovers insult the critics. The R+R thread is 50 pages of lengthy arguments, the positive thread is two pages of squeals of joy.

What makes this episode better? You think senseless battle scenes are automatically worthy of high praise, you're pretty much making the critic's point for them.

Personally I'd still watch it if it wasn't an adaptation of a good story. I'm a fucking nerd, I'll watch anything with Dragons or Zombies in it. I've seen every episode of TWD. Scratch that, I've seen every episode of Falling Skies. Scratch that, I've seen the Dungeons & Dragons movies. The difference is, if it wasn't an adaptation of a much better story it wouldn't be worth analyzing or talking about.

Well... HBO definitely know their target audience. No surprise there. Let's talk about the visuals then, since that's the sum total of what the average GoT fan's brain can parse. The dragon CGI and Jon's Chroma Key battle incrustation were so bad they hurt my eyes.

7/10 Some cringeworthy bits of dialogue and characterisation but this was the first time in like 30 episodes that nothing egregiously retarded happened, which goes far beyond my expectations at this point. Just for that, I can't even remember the last time I rated an episode that high, and it was still boring and full of clichés.

5/10 Embarassingly stupid as is now sadly the norm for this show, but most of it was at least entertaining, which is a first this season.

That's quite charitable on your part. There is literally no comparison between disparaging a TV show you believe is a piss poor adaptation of your favorite books, and throwing insults at actual people because they find your favorite TV show lacking.

It is one thing for the show to decide he has the Vale Lords, and another to justify it. "LF has the Vale Lords" is like "Half of Stannis's army disappears with all the horses and nobody noticed". It's stupid and nonsensical and they don't evem try to justify it.

I'm totally on board with ASOIAF being above average pulp, not even on a level with Moorcock's or Gaiman's best tbh. Doesn't mean it's not a shame they made it into absolute garbage far below that level. And it's funny how perception works because from where I stand it's the show apologists who get way more angry and personal than warranted.

I'd never dream of doing that, from a purely statistical point of view it would make no sense. And if you're going to try and act confident, I suggest you work on concealing your anger. Just a heads up.

I know it doesn't matter and I did say it's not a bad thing per se. It's typical over-the-top villain dialogue. I really don't need to overanalyse it tho, I identify it for what it is as it is being uttered. Brilliant writing, though, it is not.

What chaos provides is opportunity - opportunity to overturn the order. Any situation where someone is on top and someone at the bottom is, by definition, order. Even if you go with "LF has no endgame" because you can't actually be alone at the top with everyone else far below, every single step he makes, every "intermediary" goal of his, lies in order. I could go along with Chaos as the ladder even if it's a sloppy metaphor, if it remained consistent... but what LF ends up describing as the only thing that matters is the very definition of order. Thing is the writers get caught up in their own tryhard writing and what the character ends up saying has literally no meaning. It's grandiloquent nonsense. Such blather is typical of cartoonish villains, and it's not a bad thing per se, but calling that brilliant writing is a stretch. Oh, and the beetles scene was about calling Orson Scott Card a retard for criticizing the show. Not much else to add here.
