  1. I know I’m a little late to post but after stewing about that Sansa scene, I realized how upset I am about some of the deviations from the books. I can stomach the changes as long as it doesn’t affect the overall plot and the changes aren’t irreversible that could cause major ripples in the story. I can stomach the awful dialogue in Dorne and the cock merchant story (barely). I can tolerate the plot holes and many coincidences within the story. Really the only two things that I have a major issue with are the death of Barristan and the Sansa wedding night scene. These two incidents are irreversible that can majorly change the story in the future. In regards to Sansa, I’ll start with the good… So it was totally shocking, horrible, and heartbreaking to watch that scene. It made for “good” TV. The acting between the three of them in that scene was superb. Thank God they panned to Theon’s face so we didn’t have to watch. He really is a terrific actor. It was a very powerful scene. However, a single powerful scene does not make a good story. My heart broke for Sansa when I really thought about it. Sansa was always fantasizing about her wedding/marriage and her future husband. In the book, she is lined up to marry Harry the Heir and become the Lady of the Vale. She has HOPE. I was actually excited for this, even though it wasn’t as “thrilling.” In the show, SHE ENDED UP MARRIED TO THE PSYCHO RAMSEY BOLTON. Talk about major disappointment… Now she is married to the son of the man who not only betrayed her mother, her brother, and Robb’s entire army, but actually killed Robb himself. Given away by a man(?) she believes killed her two younger brothers. For some reason she feels safe in Winterfell even though she is surrounded by Stark-slaughterers because strange old people say “The North remembers” and give her a ridiculous way to signal if she’s in trouble. UH, SHE’S IN TROUBLE. This deviation bothers me so much because I felt her virginity was a huge deal for her character and added to her value. Even if Ramsey dies, she is no longer a virgin. I feel like that matters for her story. Putting her into that story seemed like either 1- shock value, or 2- no faith in Theon’s redemption without her. We watched Theon get tortured over and over and over in season 3—we don’t need Sansa to care about Theon scenes. I’m thinking it was for shock value. Changing a major character’s story into a very minor character’s for shock value is selfish. I personally think seeing the dynamic between fArya and Theon would have been more interesting. When I read those parts, I felt AWFUL for Jeyne Poole, but as long as she got away from Ramsey, I did not really care where she ended up. Where will Sansa go now that her original story is kaput? The Wall? Become Lady Stoneheart and kill all Boltons and the now nonexistent Freys? Anyone else think anything of her black hair dye washing out right before her wedding? Myranda washed her hair and out came the dye…
  2. Are we sure? And even if she doesn't that doesn't mean she won't find out. Where would Sansa go? The Vale or Winterfell would be most people's first guess. It's not like they are doing anything to hide her identity. Anyone could take her and bring her to Cersei in hopes for whatever reward she is offering for Tyrion's head. Are the Frey's still loyal to the crown? Idk, maybe it makes sense to some people, I can't wrap my head around it. Spoiler: Maybe Cersei will find out right when Theon helps her escape. If that happens.
  3. :agree: That's all I could focus on during that scene.
  4. Ok, I can accept the new "show rules" that invalidate the marriage between Tyrion and Sansa, I guess. I apparently missed the convo about that. But what I can't accept is that Cersei is sending people (or asking people) for Tyrion's head, and she has no idea where he is. If she knows where Sansa is, and believes she helped Tyrion kill her son, the king, why isn't she pursuing that as well? If I missed another convo with Cersei explaining herself then I apologize. This season isn't sucking me in as much as the previous ones. I can definitely tell that they aren't using GRRM writing for a lot of the show now, some of the dialogue this season makes me cringe. At least in previous seasons they were using a lot of lines from the books, or having GRRM writing the episode itself. Still a good show, for now.... I'm gonna have to reread these books. I've only read them once (recently finished) and I'm already mixing up the plot lines between the books and the show. I wish they would stick to the story GRRM laid out for them, although I do appreciate some things D&D added--my favorite addition being Cat's confrontation of Littlefinger after Ned's execution. I was hoping for that the entire time reading those books up until she died.
  5. BOOK AND SHOW SPOILERS BELOW I can't believe they killed Barristan. I figured he would be important later on, but I guess not? Who needs an experienced Kingsguard who knows the ways of war and knows Westeros really well when you have a Grey Worm love story? As much as I like Grey Worm, I felt he was more expendable. And Dany's reaction was horrible. She reminded me of the Mad King with that one. Anyone else annoyed with the Bolton's assumption that Sansa is able to marry Ramsey? Uh, hello she's still married to Tyrion, he hasn't been found. She is also under suspicion for killing Joffrey. How is she able to be herself? The Boltons are allies to the Lannisters, shouldn't they have turned her in? It just doesn't make sense. At least in the books, she's pretending to be Littlefinger's bastard daughter who has never been married, and they (in secret) say that they have to wait for Tyrion to be killed before she can actually marry whats-his-face. I get why they are having Sansa in Winterfell rather than fArya, but it annoys me that they aren't even addressing the inconsistencies. I wonder where Theon will take her (if that even happens, who knows.) And Littlefinger just leaves her there with the Boltons? Oh, she'll be safe since they "need" her, disregard that Ramsey is psycho and Roose is a traitor. I'm ok with deviations from the book if they don't change the overall plot and they make sense, but sometimes I think D&D just like to be shocking so they kill off semi-important characters just for the hell of it. At least in the books (most of) the deaths serve a purpose to further the plot. I loved the scene where Sansa discovered Theon. Her face was perfect. I thought she was gonna kill him right there. The ending of the episode was good too, with the stone men and Drogon. Tyrion's face when he saw the dragon--amazing. However, Tyrion wasn't touched by the stone men but uh, didn't they grab his leg and pull him further underwater?? Valyria was gorgeous, I wonder where they filmed that scene.
