King Pellinore
Most readers probably believe that Ser Robert Strong is what's left of Ser Gregor Clegane (sans noggin). I lean that way but, I wonder, how was it done and how is he controlled. We know that he has delved into the darkest of studies as a Maester to the point that the Citadel took away his chain however, it was never said that he dabbled in magic. Without a chain, it's more difficult to tell without him coming right out and saying so. So, the question is: Did Qyburn use magic or alchemy to wake this giant monster? Which ever one it was, I believe we'll see he bit off more than he can chew (much like Frankenstein).
Feliciano69
Not a damn clue. Will it ever be explained though ? Martin seems like the type to keep quiet about it, though it's certainly a different type of magic to bring somebody back to life in Robert Strong's form at least. King Pellinore
If he only 'dabbled' in magic then, I may be right and Ser Robert Strong will go out of control. Besides, he may have implied training in magic and the implication may have been deceit.

The Gray Wanderer
pretty much implied he dabbled in magic This. We've seen from Sam's interactions with Marwyn that the Citadel is actively trying to rid the world of magic. They sent Aemon to the Wall on purpose, poisoned the dragons, and Sam is warned to mind what he says else he'll find poison in his porridge. Stripping Qyburn of his chain and denouncing him actually seems tame if he was successfully practicing magic, to be honest.
King of Vaes Tolorro
He had some one warg him, he used the Other's wight making magic cause he is an Other in disguise, he used the Red Gods Magic, He drowned him because that which is dead cannot die.I don't know its a big world with magic. Any thing is possible.
Arya kiddin'
I think it is the "colder" (related to Others and wights) version of reviving as done by Red Priests. It's like Preservation by Ice.
King Pellinore
He could have lost his chain for exploring magic or, as he basically tells Cersei, for experimenting on living people to see how they die. The answer to that may lie somewhere in the middle. Maybe he was trying to find a way to stop or reverse death and got caught.
Iona
MMD used blood magic to make the vege-Drogo, and we know she and Marwyn used hang out together. Perhaps Marwyn taught something to Qyburn and now Q has just refined all this a bit further with her little project at the black cells.

That's a very nice connection you made there. *scribble scribble Certainly this re-animation can be a refined form of blood magic that MMD used. Vege-Drogo after all seems quite similar to Robert Strong.
jet199
He gave him a head transport, that's why Qyburn called him Robert Strong. After he wins the trial for Cersei he'll open his visor and say "hey wifey, I'm back."
direwienerdog
I'm not sure if it was a theory I read but I think it was speculated that Marwyn, MMD and Qayburn all studied with the Shadow Binders of Ashai. Qayburn got in trouble for studying anatomy not on corpses but live humans. Or at least he was suspected of it. I think he is using both Shadow Binding magic as a way to transfer life to Gregor' s dead body. For what it worth.

BaseBornBastard
I wonder if Qyburn will use a little remote thingy to control him during the trial by combat like in Robot Wars.

Maybe he didn't want the puppeteers for body parts just their puppeteering skills.
