Good Guy Garlan Posted April 17, 2014 Share Posted April 17, 2014 Nothing Varys has done so far implies he's a sorcerer. All he uses are costumes, tricks, spies and deceits. If anything he's a former Faceless Men acolyte who never got to use glamors or magic but who understands their ideology. Personally, I'm torn. On the one hand I don't think he hates magic, or at least, I don't think he hates it to the point of it influencing his actions. I think he told that story to Tyrion to scare him at the possibility of Stannis taking the city, which would have been terrible news for Varys on a personal level. But on the other hand, if we believe he's a Blackfyre supporter or a former Faceless Men, I think he could have reasons to hate the Targs and their dragons, given those two groups' history.
