e22ddie46
Ok soI realize this is hypothetical, but if Eddard had demanded a trial for declaring Joff a bastard, and won. What would have happened? Wouldn't that mean he was not guilty of treason and by law, what he said was the truth? I was curious as to what would have happened under that scenario. John Suburbs
They wouldn't have given him that option. Anything but a full confession would be the end of Sansa, even if Ned won the trial and was set free.
e22ddie46
Sorry, this should have been clarified, I understand why Ned pled guilty, but in medieval courts, if he had declared the trial by combat and won, would it have been considered proof of Joffrey's bastarddy? Just a question I had when I was thinking about the story
Zoravar Singh
It would be considered proof, but then they had Sansa in their control so he couldn't do it.
The Fallen
To go along, if Ned testifies and is found to be telling the truth then Joffrey would lose the throne. That's why Sansa's capture hamstrung the Starks. They had to keep her in mind before doing anything.
