As far as fighting goes. Whether Robert was fucking whores or not during the rebellion he was certainly a special figure both in being a charismatic leader who seemed to had been able to take the initiative (and complemented/completed by the more brainy commanders such as Ned and Jon Arryn) and in personal fighting prowess.
