Ramsay's Penguins
It seems to me strange that the books sometimes neglect to mention whom which lords and ladies marry. Marriages are so important, and it would give another layer to the politics of the books. Thanks to TWOIAF we know a lot of who the historical marriages between Starks, Lannisters and Targaryens have been, but I'm interested in the marriages of the current lords and ladies of Westeros. As a general rule, nobles would marry other nobles from their regionof similar power. Or they marry their vassals, such as petty lords and sworn knights. Or their own cousins. So beginning with the North, I'll provide my speculation.Little fact here.(If this garners interest, I'll speculate upon the other regions, but for know, only the North).Greatjon Umber- His uncle Mors, has a daughter.A Karstark.A woman of the mountain clans.Possibly a Lake.Medgar Cerwyn- A Condon, Stout, Tallhart, GloverRoose Bolton- First unknownSecond was Bethany RyswellThird Walda Frey (this is an outlier)Ramsay Bolton- Donella HornwoodRickard Karstark- If his uncle Arnolf had a daughter, then that would be my speculationAn Umber or Mountain ClansmanWyman Manderly- A Slate, Whitehill, Well, WatermanA Flint of Widows WatchWylis Manderly- Leona WoolfieldMaege Mormont- Everyone seems to think Tormund, but thats all a bit of fun.A Glover or Mountain clansmanAlysane Mormont- Glover or Mountain clansmanJorah Mormont- A Glover for his first and then Lynesse Hightower (an outlier) Howland Reed - Jyana of the Crannogmen, a commoner Galbart Glover - Unwed Robett Glover - Sybelle Locke Helman Tallhart - A Ryswell Leobald Tallhart - Berena Hornwood Rodrick Ryswell - Probably a Dustin, therefore Barbrey is the heir to House Dustin anyway Barbrey Ryswell - Willam Dustin Roose, Roger, Rickard Ryswell- Any combination of Slates , Flints, Stouts, Cerwyns, smaller northern families. No way would one family be allowed to marry too many powerful lords.Lyessa Flint- A Manderly or Flint of Flints FingerA Hornwood or WoolfieldOndrew Locke- A Well, Slate, WatermanMountain Clansman would probably marry each other or wolfswood houses.Literally everyone gets a Ryswell because there is so many of them. So what do you think? :dunce:
Stannis's Lawyer
As Woolfields are probably the most powerful Manderly bannermen (everything from the Sheepshead Hills to Ramsgate!) Manderly-Woolfield matches are probably very common. That being said, I don't think Wyman married a Woolfield.
Ramsay's Penguins
I figured the Woolsfields are a pretty prominent minor house. My general rule is that if they have a named seat, they're worth looking into. So Woolfield are marriage fodder. Hornwoods, Manderlys, Flints, Boltons, Lockes.Sorta like Cerwyns and Ryswells. Kienn
Mostly plausible, but is there a purpose?
Ramsay's Penguins
Mostly plausible, but is there a purpose?Well, sort of.1. It adds another layer to politics2. It is interesting and tells us about possible power etc.3. Marriages are extremely important, so I find it strange that they are hardly mentioned4. Marriages are alliances, so if say the Manderly crusade happens, we know who would be most likely to assist them5. More characters!
