The article was reported in another thread so I read it but at first I thought "the son of Kong" was some other novel...Is it a way of saying? I never heard that expression.. Lady Blizzardborn Posted March 18, 2015 Share Posted March 18, 2015 I'm not 100% sure on the origin of the phrase Son of Kong (I think it's video games), but I'm fairly certain it denotes something massive in size. Large books are sometimes referred to (especially by their writers) as monsters, i.e. a monster of a book. [i have one I call Franken-novel because it refuses to die/be finished] And really that's even a loose connection. Basically they're related because GRRM calls TWoW the son of Kong. I'm just thinking the size/length is the reason he chose that particular nickname for the work. Makes me wonder what he's going to call ADoS. I think he might have gotten them wrong. But I should wait until the second coat has dried on each square before I go ahead and decide that's what happened. Kind of disappointed.
