I had a bit of a mental breakdown when he described Cat watching her son die, cue lots of crying and me yelling "no no NO, you WANKER", which confused and sort of offended my Dad until I explained I was talking to GRRM. But largely because it was a full turn into sadomasochism. Like of the Ann Rice variety. And I dont recall that ever happening with a major character.
