WolframTarant
I just ordered the blue Harper Voyager box set from Amazon UK, that's supposed to contain books 1-4 with SoS split in two parts because I really love the cover artwork for those. The problem is I'm seeing sketchy things about those editions being out of print and I'm beginning to doubt that I'll receive the right box set. Here is what I ordered: http://www.amazon.co...ce and fire setThe seller description says, "Brand New 5 Books Set" but I don't know...I can't find this box set anywhere else on the internetDoes anyone have some knowledge on this? Am I going to get the Harper Voyager editions or the US Mass Market Paperbacks?
DaveSumm
The release date of it is just before aDwD came out, back then all the UK paperbacks were slightly smaller (I guess you'd call them mass market paperbacks, though they're not as small as US MM paperbacks) then when aDwD came out they replaced them all with larger trade paperbacks. So I would guess these are the smaller ones, but if they're not then the artwork and everything is still the same. I like the artwork too, but I just don't like having aSoS split into two so I have US paperbacks.EDIT: this...http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/0007477155/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1370771255&sr=8-1&pi=SL75...is the larger trade paperbacks but with aDwD included. Same artwork though.
WolframTarant
Thanks for the infoCall me crazy. but I've ordered that box set as well, just yesterday from ebay, seven volumes with aDwD split up. I like those covers as well. At least with that set I knew exactly what I was getting. I really like the embossed covers so...But yeah the thing that worries me is the blue box set I ordered from Amazon. The customer reviews seem to be for a handful of different box sets grouped together.http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-iMe_ICdM744/UCrnFUHAW8I/AAAAAAAAA3s/yitAtPPz5cU/s1600/255264_10150984575481434_48104255_n.jpgHere is what I hope I'll get in the mail. They do seem to be larger than the US paperbacks like you said.I've looked everywhere for it and the only place I found a couple for sale was on Amazon UK, but I'm kind of worried that I'm going to get thishttp://dodoburd.com/images/gifts/gameofthronesbookset.jpgMaybe I'm just letting anxiety get the better of me :rofl:Either way I won't find out til the end of June when it comes in the mail, I can't really explain when I'm so obsessed with this particular box set :dunno:
DaveSumm
I had a far harder time getting hold of the US paperbacks here in the UK, I'd be surprised if it was them. I can't see why it wouldn't be the ones you're after. Why exactly do you want those? I'm pretty sure they're just smaller and non embossed... WolframTarant
I guess it's mainly because I love the covers; I tend to collect a lot. It's a hobby of mine I guess. I don't have anything particularly rare or valuable as of yet. It would be cool to have some first edition hardcovers, but I tend to collect things for aesthetic value than anything else. :drunk: So I guess that's the reason. And from what I understand the UK editions have different maps, hand drawn style or something. Not sure if that's true or not though. And I'd like to get the cool clothbound edition of aGoT toohttp://3.bp.blogspot.com/--TpBmVATIEQ/UOm7wurRhTI/AAAAAAAAKQ8/Ft6hTWl44ZU/s400/A%2BGame%2Bof%2BThrones%2Bspecial%2Bedition.jpgIt's really cheap on Amazon UK
