manting
How big was Robbs force numerically? How big was Jamie's? Are there any quotes that tell us the size of the respective armies at whispering wood?
Usrnmhsnomning
In the actual battle, the Lannister forces were greatly outnumbered, as Jaime was effectively leading a counter-raid into a 3 pronged trap. If you look at that battle as part of the Siege of Riverrun, the Lannisters greatly outnumbered the North but were caught unaware in both Whispering Wood and the ensuing relieving of the siege. Basically a few thousand Northmen ambushed Jaimes force of a few hundred and won easily, then the same few thousand Northmen attacked the much larger Lannister force sieging Riverrun and won thanks to their force actually being split into three camps. Lannisters during the siege outnumbered Northmen 3 to 1.http://awoiaf.wester...Whispering_Woodhttp://awoiaf.wester...le_of_the_CampsNumbers no doubt found from AGoT. Nyrhex
“How large is his host?” her son asked.“Twelve thousand foot, scattered around the castle in three separate camps, with the rivers between,” her uncle said, with the craggy smileshe remembered so well. “There is no other way to besiege Riverrun, yet still, that will be their undoing. Two or three thousand horse.”“The Kingslayer has us three to one,” said Galbart Glover.Jaime has 12,000 foot, and 2-3,000 horse. Outnumbering the Starks 3-1, and Catelyn thinks about how many men will keep Robb safe in his honour guard?:And if it comes to that, she wondered, will thirty be enough? Will six thousand be enough? So Robb, after he was joined by Jason Mallister and the power of Seaguard, has ~6,000 men. Likely all mounted. He was there and he was gone again, his silvery armor obscured by the trees once more. Others came behind him, long columns of them, knights and sworn swords and freeriders, three quarters of the Lannister horse.3/4 of 2-3,000 is ~1,500-2,250. At the Battle of the WW, Robb had Jaime outnumbered between 3-1 and 4-1.

Nyrhex
I changed a little i hope it is true.http://awoiaf.wester...Whispering_WoodErrm... I think there was a shortage in the communication here somewhere...Robb had ~5,000 men after crossing the Twins, and after added forces from the Riverlords, he had a total of 6,000 men for the Battle of the WW (not 5k+6k). Jaime had ~15,000 total, but 12,000 foot were in the camps, and out of a total of 2-3,000 cavalry, he only took 1,500-2,250 cavalry with him to the WW (three quarters of his cavalry). The table of forces should read:Robb - 6,000 cavalry.Jaime - ~1,500-2,250 cavalry, or "close to 2,000 cavalry."EDIT: If you don't mind, The Battle of the Camps should read: Lannister forces - 12,000 foot, and a few hundred horsemen. Casualties: ~8,000 infantry. Forley Prester was in the south camp, and he was able to retreat with 2,000 spears and 2,000 bowmen. However, his cavalry detachment was a Tyroshi sellsword, who turned to Robb IIRC, so all cavalry gone from Jaime's army.EDIT: Our south camp was under the command of Ser Forley Prester. He retreated in good order when he saw that theother camps were lost, with two thousand spears and as many bowmen, but the Tyroshi sellsword who led his freeriders struck his banners and went over to the foe.”Edut: NVM.
