Total list of magic

This is an inventory of supernatural capabilities in ASoIaF, divided up by the class of person we see possessing them. I conceive of it as similar to the type of spell listing you might see in a D&D handbook or WoW wiki, except for spell level or difficulty, which we have no way to know. There is some overlap in spell capabilities, as would be found in a game-type listing, since different classes can effect the same spells (sometimes with different materials or slightly different outcomes).

Gray entries are of especially doubtful supernatural character, since they can be easily dismissed with naturalistic explanations (as indicated in the descriptions). They have been included because they are possibly supernatural. Some items (e.g., the Horn of Winter) may not be real, but if they are real then they have the powers listed. I've purposefully erred on the side of including every purported power, leaving it up to readers to decide which powers are veridical, exaggerated, mythical, charlatanism, etc.

The examples provided are not meant to be exhaustive. They simply provide references or justifications for the magical power and a point of reference for the reader to judge the veracity of the purported magic.

I'd love to hear corrections, clarifications, and better examples than the one listed, and ideas on how better to classify or describe them. I'll make the changes so that the original post contains all of the information scattered throughout the comments, with additions and corrections noted at the end.

Greenseers can talk through winds.

Warlocks cursed a woman in Qarth, who laughed their old and dusty clothes. "The wife of Mathos Mallarawan, who once mocked a warlock’s drab moth-eaten robe, has gone mad and will wear no clothes at all. Even fresh-washed silks make her feel as though a thousand insects were crawling on her skin." (It might be an illusion)

the Undying talked Dany via telepathy.

Fire ward spell that used by MMD in the pyre.

Shadow ward in Storm's End.

Then there's Stellskin; His cheeks, brow, chest and arms are covered with intricate tattoos in green and black, ancient Valyrian sorcerer's signs that supposedly make his skin and flesh as hard as steel.

Wasn't an SSM, but here is the interview in case you want to quote it or anything.

Shaw: Do you know what substance an Other sword is made from.

Martin: Ice. But not like regular old ice. The Others can do things with ice that we can't imagine and make substances of it.

And I cannot think of anything else right now, but very well done.

(Oh, but if you want to include stuff from D&E or tPatQ, then there is a few more.
Brynden Rivers uses a glamor in the Mystery Knight and

Alys Rivers

may have had visions in a storm cloud, a pool, and fire.

edit: Mel and Moqorro seem to be able to control the wind, helping ships sail faster. - Also something is similarly rumored with Euron (with help of the Storm God) as the fleet sails in from the west to attack the Reach.
Oh, and the Wall itself? Not sure how to categorize that.

...

Shadow ward in Storm's End.

...

Yeah, there is this hard to categorize magic that Brandon the builder used in places like Storm's End and at the Wall. It may be that the 'old gods' category needs to be split into COTF and First Men... I *think* warg's and 'magical/warded architecture' are part of First Men blood/tradition and not tied to the COTF. Don't have much other than my gut to back that up though. Good list.

First off: You made me chuckle more than once. Were some of these meant to sound ultra sarcastic? For example:

Septas and Septons (worshippers of the Seven):

Absolution of sin: held by all septons

OK back to serious mode: The person in qarth was i think described as a firemage. Not a 100% sure though.

Nice job!

Great additions. Added all of them. Check to see if you think the categories and descriptions make sense.

Great additions. I put them in. I categorized The Wall as "Building structures with magical dispositions"

First off: You made me chuckle more than once. Were some of these meant to sound ultra sarcastic? For example:

I was hoping that someone would catch that! Yes, several of the descriptions are tongue-in-cheek.

OK back to serious mode: The person in qarth was i think described as a firemage. Not a 100% sure though.

Nice job!

Let me take a look at how to categorize that.

Great list. I've always wanted to see something like this.

Another one for Mel is when she burns the Varaymyr's Eagle before "STANNIS! STANNIS! STANNIS! "

Euron's Hell Horn causing the Bird on the man's chest to go on fire and then killing him

The Iron Fleet sailing out of sight of land. Vic claims the Warlocks were behind this.

Hey this is great OP, i do like lists. I'll give it some thought as to if there's any missing.

one I can think of, is when Mel makes Ghost favour her over Jon.

“May I touch your … wolf?” The thought made Jon uneasy. “Best not.” “He will not harm me. You call him Ghost, yes?” “Yes, but …”
“Ghost.” Melisandre made the word a song.
The direwolf padded toward her. Wary, he stalked about her in a circle, sniffing. When she held out her hand he smelled that too, then shoved his nose against her fingers. Jon let out a white breath. “He is not always so …” “… warm? Warmth calls to warmth, Jon Snow.” Her eyes were two red stars, shining in the dark. At her throat, her ruby gleamed, a third eye glowing brighter than the others. Jon had seen Ghost’s eyes blazing red the same way, when they caught the light just right. “Ghost,” he called. “To me.” The direwolf looked at him as if he were a stranger. Jon frowned in disbelief. “That’s … queer.”

So she made Ghost like her by making a word a song - this likely means a spell with her voice.

(Rooseman caught this one).

As to whether this is considered magic (as opposed to a standard trick), is open to interpretation. But worth thinking about.

Oh and what about Shiera Seastar and Serenei lengthening their lives/staying young.

Serenei..."she was much older than the king, and preserved her beauty by the practice of dark arts"

Shiera... "Like her mother, she was reputed to practice the dark arts" (in Dand E it's suggested it was for the same reasons).

I would note Shiera's magic is presented as rumour, but Serenei as fact.
