I still don't know why Varys thought it was a good idea to send Barry to Dany, Aegon is the smart route, what do you guys think?

Personally I think it has something to do with the series expend from a trilogy to seven book instalment.

Young Griff would have been a terrible route because of the inevitable clash between Barristan and the GC, particularly if the GC had been handing out Blackfyre to Young Griff.

Also, they needed to show their loyalty to Dany after the dragons hatched, and Barristan was the best option available.

Daenerys needed more help at that juncture. Aegon's doin' just fine with Jon Connington, Septa Lemore, and co.

They're trying to independently nurture both their dragon spawn to see which comes out on top.

Aegon has JonCon, a team of teachers/mentors, and the GC.

Daenerys had leftover Dothraki screamers and former slaves.

Obviously you send the guy where he's most needed.

I doubt it has anything to do with the series expanding. The basics of the series were mapped out well in advance. It's the details and subplots that grew and required more pages for the telling. Dany was always one of the major plots. Aegon is more likely a subplot.
