The Missing - BBC's inadvertent "True Detective"

I was a little late to this one but the BBC has just produced a great crime show. It's about a missing boy told from the present but with flashbacks filling in the gaps over the 8 years he has been missing. During the show we see how characters have changed with several neat twists and revelations. The case goes from being an abduction to possibly being something much bigger. It's also amazingly well shot.

Sound familiar? It's because it is uncannily like "true detective". From episode 3 onwards there are even scenes which are similar (cops raid a hut in the middle of the countryside). That' s not to say this is a rip off at all - there's no way this was made in response to TD but more a zeitgeist thing. Or more probably HBO and BBC have been inspired by the recent european hits.

Anyway fans of True Detective and well put together crime dramas should check it out. You can also play "spot the dwarf from the hobbit" there are at least 2, I think there's a third but need to confirm. The show also reveals that French paper look better with time while the British don't :)
