Damp Hair - The Prophet
Stannis only kneels to tie his shoelaces. Gendry is a bastard.
Victor227
Stannis math goes as follows: Robert was the king. Robert had no legitimate children. Stannis is Robert's heir Stannis is king
TallTyrion
Stannis has already met one of Robert's bastards, Edric, if he didn't bend the knee to him he's not going to do so for an apprentice black smith. Also Bastard are excluded from the line of succession so it's moot. However, if he thought Joff was Robert's son then he would have raised the Lords of the Narrow Sea and gone to command the defence of Kings's Landing
Lion of the West
Stannis has already made his choices; Baratheon over Targaryen and Stannis over bastards. He's not the kind of guy to suddenly do a 180 degree turn around.
James Arryn
I was thinking about TWot5K the other day and came to a realisation. The only reason Stannis was, and still is involved, is because he found out about Joffrey's illegitimacy. Using this logic he believed he was thus next in line to the throne, since he was Robert's oldest brother. This is the main reason many believe he would have accepted Robb being King of the North, since he was not challenging Stannis' claim. Children would supercede siblings in the heirship though. So if Stannis were to meet Gendry he would know that gendry was the rightful king. Do you think that stannis would swear fealty to Gendry and if so why?No, that's not the main reason. An attempt to transplant Stark sympathies to Stannis is the main reason people want to ignore Stannis directly contradicting the idea. If you're trying to like Stannis as a Stark hangover, it's a bit inconvenient to remember he specifically wanted Robb dead.
